Ethiopia has handed over its forward operating base in Burhakaba, a strategic town in #Somalia’s #Bay_region, to Somali security forces as part of the ongoing transition toward greater Somali responsibility for national security, according to Somali Guardian.
The African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) said the handover was formally completed on 8 August, with support from the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (#UNSOS). The base, which had been held by Ethiopian National Defence Force (ENDF) troops since 2014, was transferred to the 60th Division of the Somali National Army.

Y-PEER Somalia participated today in a coordination meeting held in #Burhakaba District with a mission from the International @iom_somalia and the @WFPSomalia Operational Cell (OC).
The meeting focused on the current humanitarian situation in the district, progress of ongoing response efforts, existing unmet needs, and strengthening coordination among humanitarian actors to better serve vulnerable communities.

The Somali government and Al-Shabaab militants clashed in the area between #Burhakaba and Baidoa. The Somali government has confirmed that it has taken control of #Daynuunay. Federal forces are now advancing toward Baidoa to seize control. There were reports of casualties on both sides, and Al-Shabaab planted a roadside bomb that caused the death and injuries of a Federal Government soldier. • Children under five and pregnant women are getting timely diagnosis, treatment, and referrals.
• Malnutrition is being detected early through active nutrition screening and support.
• Communities are gaining safe water access and practising healthier hygiene habits.
• CHWs are equipped to identify, treat and refer pneumonia, malaria, diarrhoea, measles, and malnutrition—right where families live.
🌟 244 children (118 boys, 126 girls) in hard-to-reach villages like Celcadow, Salbuy, Goyaale, and Lowile have already received care thanks to these trained health heroes.
