Thank YOU so much for having me @pollyirungu! Congratulations again on everything you are creating w/ @BlkWomenPhoto - you are making huge waves & real change in the industry! So much respect!
#BWPTalks A10: The best advice & something I tell myself daily is “Don’t should on yourself.” Like many creatives I’m managing self-doubt, anxiety, what society says we “should” do. My daily practice is letting go of all of those “shoulds”! Don't need em! ; )
#BWPTalks FINAL QUESTION: What is the best advice you ever received?
Wow, real talk! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 #BWPTalks
#BWPTalks A9: That's a Big Q Polly! ; ) There are so many evolving aspects of the “photo industry” across all the genres & in education too. Many people complain that 'anyone can be a photographer' as a bad thing and focus on competition. I believe there is an abundance.
#BWPTalks FINAL QUESTION: What is the best advice you ever received?
Kenna, you are SPEAKING to me! I've been working on executing personal projects lately and continuously reminding myself to let go of perfection. #BWPTalks
A5 cont'd... You really never know what opportunities will arise when you are creating out of pure love without expectations. Add’l advice is to say Yes even if you’re not sure how you are going to do something. Say yes & then figure it out! Don't feel the need to be perfect.

#BWPTalks QUESTION 9: How have you seen this industry evolve over the years?
#BWPTalks A8: I think it depends on what your goal is- ask yourself that 1st. Build authentic relationships. Use brands you truly love. Ask ‘what can I do for you’ vs. ‘what can you do for me.’ Be confident. Re: the podcast, I’m always looking for inspiring guests doing the work!
#BWPTalks QUESTION 8: Besides using social media, what else should photographers do to catch the attention of big brands? Or perhaps score an interview with you?
Only two questions left! #BWPTalks
👋🏾 It's time for our fifth #BWPTalks!
We're so excited to have @KennaKPhoto, host of @CreativeLive TV's We Are Photographers Podcast and travel photographer, join us for a Q&A conversation.
Before we get started, tweet us a 👋🏾 if you're following along with the conversation.
#BWPTalks QUESTION 8: Besides using social media, what else should photographers do to catch the attention of big brands? Or perhaps score an interview with you?
#BWPTalks A7: I used to think a brand was about a logo, look & feel, etc. I’ve learned that YOU are your brand. No one else is an expert at being you. People will hire you, recommend you, be drawn to your personality & the way you treat people even more than your work. Be you!
#BWPTalks QUESTION 7: What are some lessons you learned while building your brand?
#BWPTalks QUESTION 7: What are some lessons you learned while building your brand?
#BWPTalks A6: I wish I’d known that my own self-limiting beliefs were going to be the biggest thing in my way. I’m still learning this lesson. Self-doubt can be the biggest hinderance to taking steps toward creating what you want with your life.
#BWPTalks QUESTION 6: What is the one thing you wish you had known before starting out?
#BWPTalks QUESTION 6: What is the one thing you wish you had known before starting out?
#BWPTalks A5: Many hats indeed! & right now I’m focusing on the hats that are COVID-friendly. ; ) My advice is to create the type of work that you love to do for yourself first. Nearly all the photogs I feature on my podcast get hired for personal projects. cont'd...
#BWPTalks QUESTION 5: You’re also a global tour and retreat leader, podcaster, international MC, and educator. What advice would you give to someone who wants to wear multiple hats like yourself?
