Our green footprint is expanding! Through the #CenteGreenProgramme, we are officially restoring 20 acres of land in Mityana with 8,000 newly planted trees. This marks a massive milestone toward our nationwide environmental goal of planting 100,000 trees across the country. We are deeply grateful to our partners at the Good Forests Foundation for driving this sustainability initiative forward. A special thanks to Msgr. Micheal Mukasa (Vicar General) and Fr. Denis Kyemwa, who represented the Kiyinda Mityana Diocese at last week's official launch alongside our very own Mityana Branch Manager, Mr. Ian Ddumba. Together, we are rooting for a greener future!

Under the #CenteGreenProgramme, our Bank is participating in an impactful environmental partnership aimed at restoring our ecosystems nationwide. We recently joined hands with local leaders and community members in Kigarare, Kyenjojo District, to launch a massive tree-planting drive. This project is a true testament to the power of shared responsibility: we provide the funding, the Fort Portal Diocese has generously provided 15 acres of land to house the project, and the Good Forests Foundation Uganda is bringing expertise for professional, sustainable implementation on the ground.

At the launch of the #CenteGreenProgramme, Chief Guest Rt. Rev. Bishop Antony Zziwa, representing the Uganda Episcopal Conference, delivered a powerful reminder of our collective responsibility to protect and restore our environment. Reflecting on the changing rainfall patterns and prolonged dry seasons being experienced across different parts of Uganda, from Mityana, Masaka to Karamoja - Bishop Zziwa highlighted the connection between environmental degradation and the weakening of our natural ecosystems. He pointed to the continued loss of forests, widespread tree cutting and charcoal burning as signs of the pressure being placed on our natural environment. As forests disappear, so do some of the natural systems that support rainfall, agriculture, livelihoods and communities. He challenged us to look beyond planting trees to understanding their long-term value and taking responsibility for their survival. “Planting a tree is not the end. We must continue to water, nurture and protect it.” This is at the heart of the #CenteGreenProgramme - a commitment to restoring degraded land, growing trees and mobilizing communities and partners to take meaningful action for a greener and more sustainable Uganda. As we launch this programme, the call is clear: let us join hands to restore creation and protect Mother Earth for generations to come. We grow trees. We transform lives. We restore creation. #CenteGreenProgramme
