The Chairperson of the Somali civil society @SONSA_NSA, @Osman_Moallim, participated in the 20th #CEWARN Technical Committee Meeting on Conflict Early Warning in Machakos Kenya.
The meeting convenes heads of national conflict early warning units and civil society organizations from Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, and Uganda, providing a critical platform for regional coordination and exchange.
The main agenda focuses on validating the #CEWARN Conflict Profiling and Scenario Building Report for 2025/2026, ahead of its submission to #CEWARN’s senior policy organ. Participants also reviewed the implementation of national early warning activities in 2025 and deliberated on strategic priorities for 2026.
This engagement highlights the essential role of civil society in strengthening conflict early warning, prevention, and peacebuilding across the region.
Emerging priority concerns discussed include:
•Enhancing conflict early warning and response support for member states conducting elections in 2025;
•Strengthening national and sub-national early warning and response structures for timely and coordinated action; and
•Sustaining conflict prevention efforts amid resource constraints.

Zerubabel Getachew, Director General for Situation Monitoring at #Ethiopia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, visited #CEWARN and its Crisis Observation Center (Situation Room). He was welcomed by CEWARN Director Mr. Camlus Omogo and #IGAD Peace and Security Division Director, Commander Abebe Muluneh. During the visit, Zerubabel and his delegation received a detailed briefing on CEWARN’s early warning architecture, including the operations of the Situation Room and its systems for data collection, analysis, and information dissemination.
The meeting also provided a platform for in-depth discussions on strengthening strategic collaboration between CEWARN and the Ministry. CEWARN is IGAD's Conflict Early Warning and Response Mechanism which was established in 2002 on the basis of a protocol signed by IGAD Member States.
