This afternoon URRENO together with @stassuganda and @lrsinitiative engaged with the Ministry of Works and Transport, Road Safety officers to discuss findings from the #CommitToAct Mobility Snapshot Campaign, with particular focus on the safety and accessibility of intersections for pedestrians and cyclists.
The engagement provided an opportunity to share observations from assessed intersections, including Kitgum House Intersection, Spear Motors Intersection, Rashidi Khamis Intersection, among others, and discussed gaps in pedestrian and cyclist infrastructure, enforcement, road-user behaviour, and the need to ensure that Non-Motorised Transport (NMT) facilities are integrated into road and junction improvements.
We also explored opportunities for stronger collaboration between government and civil society, including joint road safety awareness activities under the #CommitToAct campaign.
We appreciate the Ministry’s willingness to continue supporting the campaign and future engagements towards safer and more inclusive roads for all road users

As part of our #CommitToAct Mobility Snapshots 2026 campaign, we have identified that while key intersections have been improved by @KCCAUG and show progress with new signaling, major gaps remain in public sensitization and inclusive design (walkways/cycle lanes)
We're therefore calling for:
1. Proper pedestrian walkways & cycling lanes
2. Increased public road safety awareness
3. Stronger measures against infrastructure vandalism

Pedestrians are among the most at-risk and overlooked road users on our streets. Yet, we are all pedestrians at some time in our daily journeys.

Inclusive mobility begins with infrastructure that works for everyone. Cyclists, pedestrians, and motorists all deserve road facilities that enable safe and efficient movement.
Glad to see government making strides towards creating roads that cater to all users.
Every person has the right to safe mobility. A safe intersection should not depend on where you approach it from. Consistent pedestrian crossings, continuous sidewalks, adequate signage, and traffic calming measures are proven, cost-effective interventions that save lives.
Through the #CommitToAct Mobility Snapshots 2026 campaign, we are documenting the reality of daily journeys and calling for evidence-based improvements that prioritize people, especially vulnerable road users.
Our message is simple: safer roads are possible, and the solutions already exist.
Safe mobility is a right, not a privilege.
