#OTD in 1960 this #MI5 Director for #Poland and #Czechoslovakia #David_Whyte was sent the first clue leading to the #Portland_Spy_Ring. It was an #antisemitic letter received by a man working at the top secret research base at #Portland UK. First time this photo of Whyte pub'd.

A spycatcher in #MI5 who enjoyed the ski slopes was this man, #David_Whyte. He was the first leader of the hunt for #Harry_Houghton in early 1960. In his later years he wrote the (still secret) in house post-War history of the #SecurityService and interviewed new recruits.
