#News - A replica of a German #DFS230 glider now stands on the plateau above #FortEbenEmael
Get this - it was constructed by students of a college in #Maasmechelen 👏🏻
High praise indeed, this is how SWW history should be thought, no better way to engage the young. The replica weighs more than 500 kilograms and was made from an aluminum tubular structure. It was handcrafted by students from the welding department Campus de Helix in Maasmechelen. So sorry I missed the unveiling on 26 June. The second video courtesy of @fortEbenEmael on Facebook.
Britain was fearful of a German invasion back in 1940.
I found these remarkable concrete anti-#DFS230 glider blocks on North Meadow in Cricklade.
There was a frantic nationwide defence effort to block any invasion routes to the North, see the concrete obstacles along the A419. You could call this the Eben-Emael effect, the successful airborne glider assault by German Fallschirmjäger on the fort in May 1940

6/7 Final close up of the bridge at #Kanne, the #Belgians were quick to blow it up once the #Fallschirmjäger (#commando) assault on #FortEbenEmael started. The first airborne assault using #DFS230 gliders in (military) history 🤔
