Press Statemet بيان صحفي I, Bahgat Saber, an American political activist of Egyptian origin, strongly condemn and categorically reject the blatant targeting carried out by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) through the raid on my Manhattan home at dawn in a humiliating and unlawful manner. FBI agents stormed my residence without presenting a prior search warrant, pushed me against the wall, and kept me handcuffed for nearly nine consecutive hours. During this time, they ransacked the apartment, seizing electronic devices, computers, phones, as well as a sum of money kept inside. My wife and young children were also terrorized for hours in a scene unworthy of a nation that claims to uphold civil and constitutional rights. Even more alarming, the agents forced me outside wearing only my undergarments, and led me down to the ground floor in the freezing cold, shackled and facing the wall—despite their prior knowledge of my deteriorating health condition following open-heart surgery. Throughout this degrading ordeal, I repeatedly demanded to see a search warrant, but all my requests were denied. What is even more troubling is that the majority of the questions directed at me centered on my positions regarding Israel, and my outspoken criticism of its government and its policies of genocide and starvation against the people of Gaza. This raises grave concerns about an attempt to criminalize political dissent and free thought, rather than safeguard constitutional values. At times, I felt as though I were being interrogated in Tel Aviv, not in New York—an experience both absurd and deeply distressing. What happened constitutes a grave violation of the rights of an American citizen and a blatant assault on personal freedoms and freedom of expression guaranteed by the Constitution. Such authoritarian behavior stands in stark contradiction to the democratic standards the United States claims to uphold. I therefore call for an urgent and independent investigation into these violations, for those responsible to be held accountable, and for firm guarantees to prevent the recurrence of such practices that tarnish the record of civil liberties in the United States. Bahgat Saber American Political Activist of Egyptian Origin New York #bahgat_saber بيان صحفي أعلن أنا، بهجت صابر، الناشط السياسي الأمريكي من أصل مصري، رفضي وإدانتي الشديدة لما أقدم عليه مكتب التحقيقات الفيدرالي (FBI) من استهداف فجّ عبر مداهمة منزلي في مانهاتن فجرًا، بطريقة مهينة وغير قانونية. فقد اقتحم عناصر المكتب المنزل دون إبراز إذن تفتيش مسبق، وقاموا بدفعي إلى الحائط وتقييدي لساعات طويلة قاربت تسع ساعات متواصلة، فيما تم العبث بمحتويات المنزل ومصادرة أجهزة إلكترونية وهواتف وحواسيب، بالإضافة إلى مبلغ مالي كان داخل الشقة. ولم يتوقف الأمر عند هذا الحد، بل جرى ترويع زوجتي وأطفالي الصغار لساعات، في مشهد لا يليق بدولة تدّعي احترام الحقوق المدنية والدستورية. والأخطر أنّ عناصر المكتب أخرجوني بملابسي الداخلية فقط، واقتادوني إلى الطابق الأرضي في البرد القارس، مكبّل اليدين ووجهي للحائط، رغم علمهم المسبق بحالتي الصحية المتدهورة عقب خضوعي لعملية قلب مفتوح. وخلال هذه المعاملة المهينة، طالبت مرارًا بالاطلاع على إذن التفتيش، لكن جميع الطلبات قوبلت بالرفض. الأدهى أنّ معظم الأسئلة التي وُجهت إليّ انصبت على مواقفي من إسرائيل، وانتقاداتي لحكومتها ولسياساتها في حربها على غزة وتجويع شعبها، ما يكشف عن توجه خطير نحو ملاحقة الفكر والمعارضة السياسية بدلًا من حماية القيم الدستورية. وقد شعرت، كأنني قيد التحقيق في تل أبيب لا في نيويورك، في مشهد يثير السخرية والأسى معًا. إن ما جرى يمثل انتهاكًا جسيمًا لحقوق مواطن أمريكي، وضربًا صارخًا للحرية الشخصية وحرية الرأي والتعبير المكفولة بموجب الدستور. وأؤكد أن هذا السلوك السلطوي يتناقض مع المعايير الديمقراطية التي يُفترض بالولايات المتحدة أن تكون حارسًا لها لا منتهكًا. وعليه، فإنني أطالب بفتح تحقيق عاجل ومستقل في هذه الانتهاكات، ومحاسبة المسؤولين عنها، وضمان عدم تكرار مثل هذه الممارسات التي تلطخ سجل الحريات المدنية في الولايات المتحدة. بهجت صابر ناشط سياسي أمريكي من أصل مصري نيويورك #بهجت_صابر
