Addis Abeba – The #Ethiopian Securities Exchange (#ESX) has announced the resignation of its founding Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Tilahun Esmael Kassahun, and the appointment of Yodit Kassa as his successor, the exchange said on 7 August 2026.
Tilahun led ESX from its inception, overseeing the establishment of Ethiopia’s first organized securities exchange and the development of its institutional, governance, technological and operational foundations, according to a statement issued by the exchange.
During his tenure, ESX said it brought together government stakeholders, domestic and foreign investors and other market participants, completed a major capital-raising process and established the structures needed to operate the securities market.
The exchange credited Tilahun with building relationships with shareholders, regulators, development partners and other stakeholders, while investing in staff development and creating what it described as a culture of professionalism, collaboration and innovation.
ESX expressed gratitude to Tilahun for his role in establishing the country’s securities market and building the institution.
The exchange said Yodit Kassa, who has been involved with ESX since its project phase, will take over as CEO. She previously served as Chief Business Officer before becoming Chief Operating Officer, where she was involved in shaping the exchange’s operations, market development and strategic growth.
Her appointment, ESX said, is intended to provide continuity as the exchange enters its next phase of development.
As CEO, Kassa will oversee efforts to expand the exchange’s issuer base and market participation, broaden investment opportunities, introduce new products and market segments, strengthen market infrastructure and advance Ethiopia’s capital markets.
ESX is Ethiopia’s first organized securities exchange and operates under a license from the Ethiopian Capital Market Authority. It was established as a public-private partnership under the Capital Market Proclamation No. 1248/2021 and provides market infrastructure for equities, fixed-income and money-market segments.
