@vlad_mihalcea I've seen that so many times in so called "optimized apps". The thing is, with an ORM like @Hibernate or tools like #BlazePersistence #EntityViews, these issues are easily solved, but good luck with fixing the plain JDBC code 😉
@anghelleonard #JPA guys use #BlazePersistence #EntityViews to do that which also avoids the need to add complexity to a query for the sake of a projection. At the same time, you can choose the fetch strategy for individual parts there, because MULTISET might not always be the best 😉

@wimdeblauwe Use #BlazePersistence #EntityViews to model your DTOs and you can stop worrying about OSIV. The best way to handle lazy loading in the view is to not do lazy loading at all 😉
@davidfowl If the DTOs are for JPA entities, take a look at #BlazePersistence #EntityViews which make the mapping part easy and also improve the performance. I hope that @JPABuddy will soon support it also in their DTO generation tool, as then it's easy as pie 😀

@vlad_mihalcea Seems you forgot to show the easiest way to fetch DTO projections, which is to use #BlazePersistence #EntityViews :)
No need to adapt the query manually for the purpose of the projection. Also note that you can even use Java records if you prefer that.

@simas_ch Meh, maybe it's just an intermediary step to a better design? Also, DTOs can help with lazy loading issues, so I don't understand why you would consider this an anti-pattern per-se. With #BlazePersistence #EntityViews you can also optimize performance by using MULTISET fetching
