Die Freihandelsabkommen #CETA mit Kanada, #JEFTA mit Japan oder #EUSFTA mit Singapur wurden bereits erfolgreich besiegelt. Nun soll die Kür folgen: ein Abkommen mit den #Mercosur-Staaten in Südamerika.
Auch bei diesem Abkommen werden die positiven Effekte überwiegen. Es bietet Investoren und Unternehmen #Rechtssicherheit in einer nicht immer politisch stabilen Region, und es winken niedrigere #Zölle. Den dortigen Volkswirtschaften werden gute Wachstumsdynamiken vorausgesagt, womit auch der Absatz österreichischer Waren und Dienstleistungen steigen soll.
Dennoch werden Abkommen hierzulande überwiegend mit Polemik begrüßt: die Angst vor Chlorhühnern und genmanipuliertem Essen auf dem Teller, die Mär vom zwangsprivatisierten Wasser oder Klagewellen gegen #Umwelt- und Sozialstandards. Ganz vorne bei den großen Kritikern dabei ist stets das kleine Österreich. Dabei ist noch keines dieser Horrorszenarien eingetreten.
Die Österreicher lieben ihren #Export. Gerne beliefert man die deutsche Autoindustrie oder verschifft den hiesigen Wein. Das sieht man hierzulande mit Wohlwollen, sichert das doch die gut bezahlten Arbeitsplätze. Aber dann stellt man erschüttert fest: Auch die Südamerikaner würden am liebsten nicht nur deutsche Autos und österreichische Dosengetränke konsumieren, sondern auch gerne ihr Rindfleisch, ihre Sojabohnen und andere Erzeugnisse an die Europäer liefern.
Da zeigt sich die Hassliebe der Österreicher zum Freihandel. Zwar kauft und fährt man auch hierzulande gerne deutsche Autos, telefoniert mit amerikanischen Telefonen oder trägt italienische Mode, aber eigentlich sind #Importe nicht so gerne gesehen.
Dabei ist es längst an der Zeit, dass die EU im landwirtschaftlichen Bereich ihren #Protektionismus aufgibt und mehr #Wettbewerb zulässt. Der Freihandel ist auch für Österreich und seine Landwirte keine Einbahnstraße.
