Following the secret hangings of their four co-defendants, authorities have refused to disclose the prisoners’ whereabouts or return the bodies of those executed to the families.
IHRNGO calls for urgent international action to save the lives of Vahid Baniamerian and Abolhassan Montazer, and for the remains of the executed political prisoners to be returned to their families.
Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, director of the organisation said: “Holding prisoners incommunicado at undisclosed locations, secret executions and the withholding of bodies, amounts to enforced disappearance and constitutes a serious breach of fundamental human rights.” He added: “The war must not overshadow the Islamic Republic’s atrocities against its own people. Vahid Baniamerian and Abolhassan Montazer are at imminent risk of execution. The world must act now to save them.”

Mohammad Javad Vafayi-Sani, a 29-year-old boxer and November 2019 protester, was reportedly transferred to solitary confinement in Mashhad (Vakil Abad) Central Prison today. Given that his third death sentence on the charge of efsad-fil-arz (corruption on earth) was upheld more than two months ago, he is at grave risk of execution.
His lawyer also posted today: “Again, due to various reasons, a retrial request has been submitted to the Supreme Court on behalf of Mohammad Javad Vafayi-Sani and this requires that the implementation of the sentence be halted. We have explained the extrajudicial process that has taken place in this case to officials of the Judiciary and the office of the Head of the Judiciary; if this is ignored, we will be forced to publish the correspondence.”

🚨 URGENT 🚨 Saman Mohammadi Khiyareh, a 34-year-old political prisoner, has informed his family that his execution is set for Wednesday morning. His parents are traveling to Tehran for a final visit with their only son.
Mohammadi was arrested in January 2010, and several months later, Tehran’s Revolutionary Court sentenced him to death on charges of "waging war against God." The Supreme Court later overturned this sentence. In a retrial in a different court, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison for "membership in opposition groups" against the Islamic Republic.
Under significant pressure from security agencies, the 15-year sentence was annulled, and Mohammadi was sentenced to death once again on the same charges after a deeply unfair trial with severe violations of due process.
Saman’s sister has made a public plea, expressing the family's despair over his 15 years of unjust imprisonment.
According to Hengaw, Mohammadi endured severe torture while in detention, leading him to falsely confess to the killing of Khalifeh Ebrahim Farhadi in Qorveh and the murder of a military officer during the 2009 protests in Sanandaj.
