OUR IMPORTS GREW IN THE PERIOD OCT - DEC 2021
Kenya's total imports were valued at Kshs 613.6 billion in the period Oct to Dec 2021, which were up by Kshs 168.1 billion (an increase of 37.7%) from Kshs 445.5 billion in the same period in 2020.

KENYA’S TRADE PERFORMANCE IN OCT-DEC (COMPARING 2020 AND 2021)
In Oct to Dec 2021, total exports were valued at Kshs195 billion compared to Kshs 161.4 billion in same period in 2020; and therefore, total exports increased by Kshs 33.6 billion (20.9%).

KENYA'S BALANCE OF TRADE
The balance of trade deficit for the period Oct to Dec 2021 deteriorated by Kshs 134 billion (47.3%) to record Kshs 418.4 billion in 2021 from Kshs 284.1 billion in 2020. This can be attributed to the growth of our imports.

For the first time Kenya registered a -VE balance of trade against Tanzania of Kshs 9B between Jan - Sep 2021 as compared to a +VE balance of Kshs 3B in 2020. This is due to imports of cereals which tripled, while wood products and paper products doubled.
