There's a reason I'm harping on the #BoltFire and the #FKULightningComplex so much. There's an ominous parallel that I'm seeing with the FKU.
Recall the #MineralFire in the FKU in July 2020, also an early season fire *after a heavy rain year.* It wasn't a terrible fire, but it was pretty big and it burned *surprisingly* hot. This thing was ripping for it being so early in the season.
Folks were noticing surprising fire behavior, and it caught a lot of resources off guard. I was chasing 'em around as they scrambled to stay in front of it, and I stayed up all night with the Santa Barbara guys, then the Bear Divide and Crane Valley #Hotshot crews as they did several miles of tactical firing for structure defense.
Again...not a "bad" fire, but it was a little too big for its britches, and as we know what ultimately happened the following month in 2020...the FKU Mineral Fire was a harbinger for things to come...we just didn't fully realize it at the time.
There's a decent chance the FKU says "FKU" to California and signals the apocalypse. Or maybe this is just a run-of-the-mill Fresno grass fire in JUNE...and this season will be the 3rd consecutive nothing burger for California.
In the words of the most experienced firefighter I know: "we'll see."
