Open Letter to the Liberal Government of Canada and the Mainstream Media To Prime Minister Mark Carney, the Liberal government, and every major media outlet that claims to inform this country: We are the average Canadian taxpayers. We work. We pay. We are being crushed. Not many short years ago this country’s middle class ranked among the strongest and happiest on earth. Young adults could find work, buy a home, and build a future. Food and housing did not devour paycheques. Capital stayed and invested here. Living standards, however imperfect, still moved forward for ordinary people. Look at us now. We are living in a nightmare of our own government’s making. Young adults—our children and grandchildren—cannot find decent jobs because successive waves of rapid, poorly matched immigration have flooded the labour market far beyond housing, infrastructure, and employment capacity. That failure sits on top of the reckless spending that has driven federal and provincial debt into the trillions. It sits on top of the capital flight that has drained more than a trillion dollars out of this country since 2015. It sits on top of the never-ending scandals that are never properly investigated, never fully accounted for, and never treated with the seriousness once reserved for a sixteen-dollar glass of orange juice. And while all of this grinds us down, the government continues to announce multi-billion-dollar commitments to distant green projects whose real returns, if any, sit a decade away—money taken from the same taxpayers who can no longer afford groceries. The tariff deadline is only the latest blow. Ontario, Quebec, and British Columbia face another direct hit. The rest of us will pay through higher costs, higher taxes, and higher debt for generations. This is the dichotomy we live every single day. On one side: controlled messaging, claims that Canadians have “never had it so good,” photo-ops, and the steady insistence that any pain is temporary, global, or someone else’s fault. On the other side: empty wallets, locked-out young people, plants on the edge, and a middle class that has been hollowed out in eleven short years. Now the media has spent the last week pushing a new narrative: that people like us—taxpayers who speak the obvious truth about declining living standards, unaffordable food, job scarcity for the young, and the refusal to face reality—are the problem. We are spreading “misinformation.” We are the bad people. We are the ones who must be corrected, dismissed, or shamed into silence. It is a giant psychological operation. It is designed to make us question our own eyes, our own bank accounts, and our own sanity. We see the prices. We see the job postings that vanish. We see the debt accumulating. We see the priorities that place ideology and distant timelines ahead of the people who actually keep this country running. And then we are told the problem is our perception. Stop. Stop the gaslighting. Stop treating public money as infinite while families ration food. Stop flooding the labour market without matching capacity and then pretending the resulting youth unemployment is imaginary. Stop burying scandals under process and time while ordinary people are held to standards that no longer apply upward. Stop using the media to pathologize legitimate anger and legitimate observation. We are not misinformed. We are not extremists. We are the people who pay for everything you spend. Our children and grandchildren will inherit the debt, the diminished opportunities, and the weakened country you are leaving them. The patience is gone. The trust is gone. The willingness to accept another round of controlled narrative while the ground disappears under our feet is gone. Deliver results that reverse the fall in living standards—or get out of the way.
