Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (#BJP) after a party delegation approached #ElectionCommission and #Karnataka #Governor over alleged electoral irregularities, accusing the BJP of attempting to shield its workers involved in the controversy.
Describing the issue as “a big criminal conspiracy in the history of India”, #DKShivakumar said BJP workers who allegedly distributed #Form7 must reveal who instructed them and supplied the documents.“Ultimately they have gone to the Election Commission. Now they are trying to protect their workers. The workers will have to tell who gave them. Some of them have admitted it, while some have approached the court. Let the workers disclose who gave the forms. That also has to be investigated,” he told reporters.
D. K. Shivakumar said the alleged irregularities came to light after senior Congress leaders, including #RahulGandhi and Congress president #MallikarjunKharge, raised concerns during their visits to Karnataka.“When Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge came here, we found out irregularities in Mahadevapura and several other places, including Aland,” he said.
The Chief Minister also cited alleged instances from constituencies represented by senior party leaders, including Minister Eshwar Khandre’s assembly segment and M.B. Patil’s Bableshwar constituency.“In Bableshwar, BJP leaders themselves have admitted that they distributed the forms, acknowledged it was wrong and requested that no action be taken. What do BJP leaders have to say about that?” Shivakumar questioned.
Claiming that similar admissions had emerged from Belagavi, Ballari and Mysuru districts, he said the #Congress was collecting documentary evidence related to the matter.“In so many places they have admitted it. We are gathering all the documents,” he added.

NDA Petitions Karnataka Governor, Alleges Congress Is Misusing Police to Stall Voter Revision Process

Leaders of the National Democratic Alliance (#NDA) in Karnataka, comprising the Bharatiya Janata Party (#BJP) and Janata Dal Secular(#JDS), on Tuesday submitted a formal memorandum to #Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, alleging unlawful interference by the ruling Congress government in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (#SIR) of electoral rolls.
The delegation, led by Union Ministers H.D. Kumaraswamy, alongside Leaders of the Opposition R. Ashoka (Assembly) and Chalavadi Narayanaswamy (Council), accused the state government of weaponising the police apparatus against opposition party workers filing statutory objections to voter lists.
According to the memorandum, the SIR process is currently at the stage of notice hearings and the disposal of claims and objections. The alliance asserted that submitting objections against the inclusion of ineligible names via #Form7 is a legitimate statutory right under Rule 13(2) of the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960, and backed by #ElectionCommission of India (ECI) guidelines permitting bulk submissions by Booth Level Agents (#BLAs).
The opposition parties alleged that the Congress administration and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (#KPCC) functionaries have actively disrupted the exercise by pressuring local law enforcement to lodge criminal cases against applicants.
The memorandum pointed out that while submitting false claims under the election process is governed strictly as a non-cognizable offence under Section 31 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, police departments are invoking serious non-bailable penal sections under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023,including cheating, forgery, intimidation, and breach of peace,to bypass legal safeguards and intimidate BJP-JDS cadres.
The NDA also flagged a recent protest held on October 1 by Chief Minister #DKShivakumar and his cabinet colleagues outside the Chief Electoral Officer’s premises. The delegation termed the demonstration an unlawful bid to exert administrative pressure on an independent constitutional authority, asserting it violated High Court directions restricting protests in #Bengaluru exclusively to Freedom Park.
The delegation urged the Governor to intervene immediately, issue binding directives to the state administration to cease police intimidation, and protect the constitutional integrity of the ongoing electoral roll revision.
