In science, we inquired about how something balances. Kids loved the special bird! The next morning during soft start, kids voluntarily built towers out of various blocks & cups to test out their stability. #groWHere @WHE_Whiskers @WHESIBPYP
Day 2 of exploring shapes. Firsties made shapes on geoboards & solved an inquiry on what attributes make a square, a rectangle, & a triangle (closed shapes, number of corners & sides, measured length by counting units of each side, etc). #groWHere @WHE_Whiskers
We launched the new math unit by sorting shapes into 2 piles as table teams. It was so challenging! Then they had to guess where each belonged on my chart. (Open vs closed shapes!) Their minds were blown once they figured out the mystery rule. #growHere @WHE_Whiskers
In Letterland, we learned when y says long i & when y says long e. (At the end of 1 syllable & 2 syllables words.) We focused on open & closed syllables in live reading (po-ny vs pen-ny) & word detectives to find spelling patterns. #groWHere @WHE_Whiskers
Firsties are loving our new way to write words at small group time. Weโve been running out of expo markers lately. After learning about human impact in IB & Reduce-Reuse-Recycle & landfills in read aloud, kids loved putting that into action! #groWHere @WHE_Whiskers @WHESIBPYP
Last weekโs P2 restorative circle time focused on humility. We played Rocks Paper Scissors around the circle, discussing how we feel when we donโt win & how to appropriately respond. We practiced how to lose gracefully & win humbly. #groWHere @WHE_Whiskers
