What Happened in Syria Over the Past Two Days? The events began when groups linked to remnants of the former regime, backed by Iran, launched an attack on security force centers in Latakia. These groups, led by Syrian officers who had previously operated under Iranian supervision (including Ghayath Dalla) carried out killings, kidnappings, and besieged hundreds of security personnel. As news spread, widespread anger erupted across Syria. People feared that Iran and the Syrian regime were attempting to reassert control over the country. In response, civilians armed themselves and headed toward the conflict zones, while Syrian security forces and the army dispatched massive reinforcements to the area. The situation quickly spiraled into chaos, as the attack on security forces was not just an ordinary assault but resembled a military coup involving thousands of fighters. However, security forces and the army managed to suppress the coup attempt, killing hundreds of the armed militants involved. Unfortunately, in the midst of the mess, some individuals took advantage of the situation to commit abuses against civilians. The Syrian security forces have since launched an investigation into these violations, arresting those responsible and preparing to put them on trial. Syria was on the brink of falling into the Iranian trap once again.
