On #NationalSewingMachineDay, the world honours all involved in making modern #sewingmachine. One of the most well-known #sewingmachine manufacturers was #IsaacMerrittSinger whose foot-pedal & up-down needle first emerged in 1851, & still goes by that name #SingerSewingMachine.

#IsaacMerrittSinger patented his 1st commercial #SewingMachine OTD in 1851. Singer didn’t invent the sewing machine but he improved on the design & made it much more practical & efficient. He also pioneered the practice of consumers buying on credit & making installment payments.

Today in 1851, #IsaacMerrittSinger patented his first commercial sewing machine. Singer didn’t invent the sewing machine-#EliasHowe had gotten the 1st American patent for HIS machine in 1846. Singer had improved on the design, however, and made it much more practical & efficient.
