How will you use the TQE process to inform your practice?
Q4: planning with my team and coach will help me implement the TQE process by allowing me to plan out questions that engage Ss. And through the questions and discussion I can assess their learning. #JacksonMath
#JacksonMath A4 Selecting the tasks and working through them myself. Trying to understand the errors that could be made as the correct solutions. Planning out questions to facilitate their thinking. I love the way the teacher never says they are wrong.
Not jumping straight to the formulas. I'd like to have them work through it on their own to come up with a formula that could work. I LOVED the first video of the kids finding volume differently and charting it. Great way to lead to student discovered formula!

What changes will you make to your planning and instruction based on what you read and considered from this chapter?
Random thought here: I love how each chapter we all find different things that were "key points" to us. Its ALL important and when all our thoughts are put together we cover everything. I just thought that was pretty cool :D #JacksonMath
A3: Working closely with my team so I can know how to use all tools/ formulas correctly #JacksonMath
#JacksonMath A3 I will be planning out all the vocabulary needed, the formulas, any problems that I will have the students working through I will need to work through to understand how they may get to some results and how those results could be incorrect.
Oh, and also finding area of shapes that are not perfect rectangles. Even when using grids behind the shape it can be hard to understand the value of half of a square as half of a unit.

A2: I think going to the formulas too soon would be a challenge. When students confuse the formulas, then there is no connection to understanding to the concepts. #JacksonMath
The vocabulary for one since each type of measuring has is own set of vocabulary to learn. As well as the area/perimeter confusion. The 2 get mixed up frequently with students. Along with miscounting of the exact number of squares when looking at certain models.

What challenges might you face when implementing the key ideas from this chapter?
#JacksonMath A2 for me the biggest challenge will be teaching perimeter and area correctly. Several times through the chapter practices I made the mistake and mixed them up ๐คฆโโ๏ธ
Q2: Finding those questions that will lead to Ss discussion and knowing the vocabulary #JacksonMath
Because of the many aspects of measurement, there will be their own set of vocabulary that Ss will have to acquire. Through discussion and just trying to organize everything will help with Ss understanding. #JacksonMath
I think making sure to give that hands-on learning with manipulatives initially. Especially with area, perimeter, and volume. Also using those other strategies for problem solving for example open number lines with elapsed time.
