Yesterday, projected 1st-round MLB Draft pick AJ Gracia was asked on MLB Network what has helped him the most with the mental game. His answer? His breath. More specifically, utilizing what we call a Big League Breath to win the time in between pitches. Why? Because that is the most important time during competition. All ballplayers should be super intentional with their breath, body language, and self-talk during those 10-15 seconds. Side note: I’m incredibly grateful to have worked with the UVA baseball program over the last 4 years. Watching players like AJ buy into the process, develop the mental side of their game, and then share it on a national stage is pretty special. The best players understand that the mental game isn’t separate from performance, it’s what drives it. 👊💪🧠
