Iris lutescens (Crimean Iris) at #KewAlpine last year. It’ll be flowering now as well. There is also a purple morph and the flowers use nectar deception to attract pollinators but without actually providing nectar, sneaky!

Tropaeolum beuthii is endemic to Chile and found in what are wonderfully termed, desert fog oases or lomas. These provide a constant water supply amongst the otherwise parched desert.

Number three for #sixonsaturday is Corydalis chionophila ssp. firouzii! Native to Iran and part of the #Papaveraceae family that also includes poppies.

These Iris planifolia were part of the #KewAlpine display at the @BritishIrisSoc show at #RHS Wisley last February. Although I don’t remember this, they apparently have a light spicy scent to the flowers!

Totally unexpected to see this Dorycinum fulgurans in flower at #KewGardens in June. I’ve walked passed it many many times and admired the geometric stems but the time pale pink flowers were equally stunning!

The irises are flowering at #KewAlpine, like this #Iris sari taken last year! Native to stony hills in the Middle East, it grows 15-30cm high, a third of which may be made up of the flowers!
