As already hinted, the combination of intense daytime heating, dry northerly winds, and the later interaction with moist westerlies helped establish a strong wind confluence zone, triggering #Thunderstorm activity along the #LWD line. 🌩️🌬️ As expected, South #Konkan and adjoining parts of South #Maharashtra remained more favourable for convective development during the evening hours. Accordingly, #Badlapur first baked under extreme #heat, with the temperature soaring to nearly 43°C — making it the #hottest #May day in at least the last 13 years in my observations. 🥵🔥 However, nature had a dramatic plot twist reserved for the evening. 😄 A sudden dust storm swept across the region, bringing gusty winds of nearly 50 km/hr and causing temperatures to crash sharply from around 43°C to nearly 31°C within a short span of time. ⛈️🌬️ The thunderstorm also produced 4.3 mm rainfall, officially opening the May rainfall account for the station. 🌧️ And thus further temp drops to 28c making it coolest spot in #MMR What an incredible weather rollercoaster for #Badlapur! 🥳🥰 From severe heatwave conditions during the afternoon with a peak temperature of 42.9°C and real-feel values touching a scorching 51°C, to #thunderstorms, #rain and a cool pleasant evening later on — the atmosphere packed almost every season into a single day. 😄 👉 The convective activity has brought temporary relief from the ongoing heatwave conditions across the region. #KonkanWeather #May #Rain #summer #heatwave #BadlapurRains #MumbaiRains #PuneRains

However, nature had a dramatic plot twist reserved for the evening. 😄

As wind confluence gets established, westerlies are expected to penetrate inland up to the ghat base by afternoon hours, leading to temporary lower-level wind discontinuity (#LWD) formation across the ghats and adjoining leeward Deccan #Maharashtra. 🌩️🌬️ Under this setup, parts of southern and southeastern #MH may witness convective activity from today into the weekend, with some interior south #Konkan ghat-base locations also having chances of isolated #thunderstorm activity with drifting west nature. #WeatherAnalysis #KonkanWeather

As expected, widespread #Thunderstorm activity developed along the #SahyadriGhat section of #Maharashtra — from #Igatpuri #Bhimashankar #Tamhini #Mahabaleshwar to #Amboli — under the influence of a lower-level wind discontinuity (#LWD). 🌩️ The drifting cells brought #rainfall over parts of #Shahapur, #Murbad, and #Karjat talukas. Meanwhile, eastern #MMR witnessed duststorm to drizzle activity across the #Dombivli, #Kalyan, #Ulhasnagar, #Ambernath, and #Badlapur belt. #Shelu, #Neral recorded 12 mm of #Rainfall, with temperatures plunging to 24°C at 3:30 PM from 40.8°C at 2:30 PM — a massive drop of nearly 17°C within just one hour. 🌧️🌡️⚡ Video below. 👇 👉 A classic example of intense pre-monsoon convective cooling associated with thunderstorm outflow.
