Russians Expect Communists to Take Second Place in 2026 State Duma Elections
More than half of respondents surveyed by the independent research center @RusFieldGroup believe that #CPRF and #LDPR will compete for second place in the State Duma elections in 2026. Slightly more respondents currently expect the communists to come out ahead.
According to the pollsters, these numbers reflect respondents’ perceptions of the real political balance of power, rather than their personal voting preferences.
For example, confidence in a second-place finish for the Communist Party is shared not only by its own supporters but also by nearly one-third of voters backing the party #NewPeople and more than half of supporters of #Yabloko.

The Polylog project calculated how many votes parliamentary parties won in Russia’s 2025 regional assembly elections (party lists, single electoral districts):
🐻 #United_Russia — 3,057,000 votes (+929k vs 2020 in the same regions)
🔵 #LDPR — 464k (+9k)
🔴 #CPRF — 444k (–148k)
🟡 #SRZP — 334k (–12k)
🟣 #New_People — 279k (+184k; in 2020 participated in 4 campaigns, this year in 9 of 11)
These results signal an important shift in Russia’s party landscape ahead of the 2026 State Duma elections.
LDPR is clearly consolidating its role as the country’s second party. At the same time, New People are on the rise, threatening to push SRZP into the smallest faction in the Duma.
Meanwhile, CPRF continues to steadily lose regional voters. Why this is happening — see repost 👇

Decommunization of Russia’s regions – the main outcome of the 2025 regional elections
The key intrigue of the 2025 regional elections, according to experts, was the competition between “Liberal-Democratic Party of Russia” (LDPR) and the Communist Party (СPRF) for the status of the “second party” after United Russia. This matters ahead of the 2026 @State_Duma campaign.
Before the elections, polls showed LDPR was about to push СPRF from second place in regional parliamentary races: in many regions LDPR overtook or equaled the communists.
📍 Results by regions:
#Komi: unchanged, both parties tied
#Kaluga: CPRF -3%, LDPR +1%, tied
#Belgorod: CPRF -5%, LDPR +2%
#Voronezh: CPRF -5%
#Kostroma: CPRF -6%, LDPR +1%
#Kurgan: CPRF -9%, LDPR -2%
#Magadan: CPRF -2%, LDPR +1%
#Novosibirsk: CPRF -6%, LDPR -4%
#Ryazan: CPRF -3%, LDPR -4%
#Chelyabinsk: CPRF -6%, LDPR -2%
Yamal-Nenets AO (#YNAO): CPRF +2%, LDPR +1%
📊 On average: CPRF loses 2–9% (only one region shows +2%). LDPR declines in 4 regions (by 2–4%) but grows in 5 (by 1–2%). In 5 out of 11 regions with elections to regional parliaments, LDPR displaced CPRF from second place.
Importantly, unlike CPRF, LDPR did not compete for the role of the main opposition but acted as a “second state party.” The main outcome of the 2025 campaign: LDPR becomes the second most influential party in the regions. Its role is to attract votes of those “for Putin, but against officials.” In regional parliaments, LDPR deputies almost always vote in solidarity with United Russia.
CPRF faces pressure both from below and above. From below, part of the protest electorate became disillusioned with CPRF due to its support for the war against Ukraine. From above, the #Kremlin still treats CPRF as the main opposition, so its candidates face barriers to registration. The strengthening of the Pensioners’ Party, a spoiler aimed against the communists, also reflects increased pressure on the left flank.
Meanwhile, the New People party is gradually consolidating as a systemic liberal opposition party, with strong results in local elections in Novosibirsk, Smolensk, Chelyabinsk, Orenburg, Magadan, and Stavropol.
The fifth parliamentary party, A Just Russia (#SRZP), also declined. Beyond losses in most regions, SR lost parliamentary representation altogether in Voronezh and Ryazan. The party faces a clear image crisis: like LDPR, it supports #Putin; like CPRF, it supports the war; and it does not position itself as opposition either on the left or on the liberal flank.

🇷🇺 Russia’s municipal elections: Kremlin promotes spoilers against CPRF, blocks Yabloko
Candidate registration for September’s municipal elections is over, and the results show a clear pattern:
✅ All five parliamentary parties (#United_Russia, #CPRF, #LDPR, #SRZP, #New_People) were registered without problems.
🚫 Non-parliamentary parties faced obstacles — and here the Kremlin’s “spoiler” strategy is obvious.
Who advanced most successfully?
🔴 Pensioners’ Party → will be on ballots in 10 of 11 cities where it nominated lists.
🔴 Communists of Russia → made it into 8 cities (out of 9).
🔴 Rodina → approved in 5 cities (out of 10).
Who lost?
🍏 @YablokoParty: tried to run in 12 regional capitals but was blocked in 8 of them by local election commissions.
Other small parties (“Civil Platform,” “Russian Party of Freedom and Justice,” “Green Alternative”) managed to register only a single list each.
📊 Where competition is strongest?
Cheboksary (#Chuvashiya Republic): record → 11 parties on the ballot, including 6 non-parliamentary (Pensioners’ Party, Communists of Russia, Rodina, Greens, Social Protection Party, Civil Platform).
Kaluga & Syktyvkar (#Komi Republic): 8 parties each.
👥 Most competitive race → Syktyvkar, with 8 candidates per seat.
📌 In total, 14 parties (out of 23 registered nationwide) will compete in city council elections across 25 regional capitals. But in 4 cities — Izhevsk, Makhachkala, Magadan, Stavropol, Ulyanovsk — voters will only see the same five parliamentary parties on the ballot.

At Least 11 Parties to Take Part in 🇷🇺 Regional Parliamentary Elections
Only half — 12 out of 23 political parties — managed to nominate party lists for the September elections to regional parliaments. All but one of them successfully passed the registration stage (see chart).
The four parliamentary parties — #United_Russia, #CPRF, #LDPR, and A Just Russia (#SRZP) — will be represented in all 11 regions where legislative assembly elections are being held. The fifth @State_Duma party, #New_People, registered its lists in nine regions — except in #Belgorod Region and the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug (#YNAO).
The most active among non-parliamentary parties — as in the gubernatorial elections (see repost) — were spoiler parties of the CPRF: the Party of Pensioners (7 regions) and Communists of Russia (4 regions). They faced no refusals in registration, which indicates that the #Kremlin finds their participation in elections beneficial.
The party Rodina suffered the greatest losses, managing to collect the required signatures and register lists in only three (out of five) regions. In two regions, the Greens party made it onto the ballot.
One list each was registered by the Russian Party of Freedom and Justice (RPSS) and Green Alternative; the Party of Social Protection (PSZ) could join them if it is reinstated in the elections.
As for the level of competition by region, the leader remains the #Komi Republic, where all nine nominated party lists were registered. Second place is shared by #Novosibirsk and #Ryazan regions (eight each), but #Kostroma Region (seven) could join them if PSZ is reinstated. The lowest diversity is in #Magadan Region (five lists) and YNAO (four), where only the Duma parties will appear on the ballot.

Opposition → Elections → Prison → War
Alexander @Gliskov, leader of the Krasnoyarsk branch of #LDPR, took second place in the September 2023 gubernatorial elections in the Krasnoyarsk region.
That same fall, Gliskov was arrested and charged with accepting a large-scale bribe. By fall 2024, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
In August 2024, the Russian election watchdog Golos included Gliskov in its list of political prisoners potentially eligible for a future prisoner exchange (https://t.co/w3VMlviBSq).
Gliskov denies the charges, calling his case politically motivated. However, this did not stop him from requesting to be sent from prison to the #RussiaUkraineWar. He announced this decision on March 25 during a court hearing where he is appealing his sentence.

👮 The head of the LDPR in the Krasnoyarsk regional parliament Alexander Gliskov is arrested for two months with accusation of receiving a bribe in (!) 2016
🗣️ "The case is fabricated. It is an act of political retribution," stated Gliskov in the court.

🔴 CPRF begins preparations for 🇷🇺 Duma elections 2026
#CPRF leader Gennady #Zyuganov has lodged complaints against the Presidential Administration, the Central Election Commission and political rivals:
“When instead of political rivalry they pull #LDPR above us, it's a disgusting cheat.”
“I don't know who invented the New People party, but I haven't heard a single new word from them over the years.”
“The authorities determine that 55% are given to United Russia, 12% to these, 9% to those, and 3% to the others... For such a thing one should be beaten severely with an oak stick. And not on the back, but on the head!”
“Our team is ready for both elections and governance. We believe that there will be a center-left government. And we will fight for it.”

Ou la, vraiment … ça commence? 🔥

Deepdive @7x7journal on Aleksey Ostrovsky, who became the first #LDPR "opposition" governor in depressed #Smolensk in 2012 as a reward for loyalty during #Bolotnaya. From there, things quickly got worse as the new face quickly behaved "like a regular #UnitedRussia bureaucrat".

Bout a fait quelques interviews remarquées.
On y a appris que son soutien total au président #Poutine et que si + plus jeune aurait participé à l'opération spéciale comme volontaire.
Sur cette photo il devient membre du #LDPR.
