@MattEskes A few years back, I did a 6-part series on #LinuxUsability - not just on Gnome, but the others as well. Some things just worsened since then. https://t.co/iCHJHwoAvZ

#SonicDE: "The community-driven Sonic Desktop Environment aims for keeping and improving the #X11-specific aspects of #KDE. Currently it consists of the customized KWin/X11 and Plasma Desktop components." No more need for #Wayland. #LinuxUsability

Dear friends at @kdecommunity, please consider the feedback from https://t.co/hxn8Tt32xi and please don't turn KDE into a "convergence" mess. Show proper menus by default, not hamburger menus. Use Fitts' Law. #LinuxUsability

Adding a large folder icon and text inside an empty folder is so wrong that it hurts. By adding a folder icon and text inside a folder, the folder is no longer empty. The #gnome designers seem to not understand the first thing about the desktop metaphor. #LinuxUsability

For those who prefer a long-form article rather than a series of tweets: I just published "Running #Cosmic by @system76 for the first time: UX first impressions" https://t.co/Fviswr7sPn #LinuxUsability
Always wanted to be able to arrange things nicely like the Mac can. Unfortunately, most open source file managers don't allow for this. For those of us whose brains work visually, being able to arrange the files on the computer spatially is a big deal! #LinuxUsability

If I am not mistaken, writing a spatial file manager is impossible under #Wayland because it doesn't let applications set absolute window positions. So guess what. I am writing it for Windows now where I don't have to deal with such restrictions. #LinuxUsability

Is it just me or were Lisa, Windows 2.0, Amiga, Atari TOS, Digital Research GEM, RISC OS, ProDOS 16, BeOS,... all more "desktop-like" than most of today's desktop environments? The comments in https://t.co/0LGzfOCfLx made me realize this. #LinuxUsability
A global menu with easy-to-use search can be addictive: Drive large applications like @krita quickly from the keyboard without having to remember all shortcuts. Let's make the best global menu we can #helloSystem #LinuxUsability
Who could ever want those dreaded hamburger icons instead of proper File, Edit,... menus? And why? How is this supposed to work in anything but "toy" applications? 😒 QMenu >> Gtk.MenuButton #LinuxUsability

Great reminder that #RedHat once had a proper desktop: Icons on the desktop, permanant dock at the bottom of the screen, real menus in the windows, proper window title bars, minimize buttons... so sad to see today's @gnome defaults in comparison. Progress? #LinuxUsability

This does "desktop-y" things in an elegant, "desktop-y" way. "Desktop Linux" developers should run this from time to time to get some inspiration! (Spatial file manager, drag-and-drop everywhere, application icons in file manager, no need for .desktop files, etc.) #LinuxUsability
Interesting post on RISC OS from @lproven @TheRegister - RISC OS: 35-year-old original Arm operating system is alive and well - https://t.co/IXlDDQwVgb #ARM #RISCOS
(1/3) Never used #riscos when it was new (was it ever a thing outside of the UK?) but looking at it, it gives off more "proper desktop" vibes than even today's Linux desktop environments. Why is this? #LinuxUsability

@libreoffice @fk_inPyongyang The good, the bad, and the ugly: The @libreoffice Calc window has a proper menu (File, Edit,...) - GOOD. But why does it have a second row? (File, Home,...) - BAD. The Writer window is lacking a proper menu - UGLY. Unusable, rather. Please give us proper menus. #LinuxUsability
Thanks Clement Lefebvre of @Linux_Mint fame for writing a thumbnailer that shows the correct application icons on #AppImage files 😍 #LinuxUsability
@Mate_Desktop @gnome @lxde @xfceofficial Thanks Clement Lefebvre from 🐧 @Linux_Mint. Making such things work "Out Of The Box" is a great step for improving #LinuxUsability 👍
