Not to be Capt Obvious, but since that’s where I’ve found myself lately, in order for revelation to come, ignorance has to exist. In other words, don’t cry for revelation without making the honest admission from the front: “Lord, I don’t know...” #MattTheSecond
The centurion stands as a witness of a PROCESS that brought the miraculous. His training in an authority chain produced in him a faith that it worked. When he met the greatest authority, all that was required was a word from the top. Not extensive explanation. #MattTheSecond
We are committed to some very strange things-trials and tests are indicative of failure in your walk with God, or a sign of those who aren’t living Godly lives, or that they are anomalies. Peter said the strange thing would be for them NOT to be in our lives. #MattTheSecond
If your love is restricted to those who are the same color, same race, same language, same football team, etc, you are no better than the world. #MattTheSecond #SeeingJesus #TightButRight
The Lord created two divisions of His church: the oikos, or individual households of faith, and the ekklesia, the temple-communities he built on the revelation of who He is. The latter was spoken of in the OT as the “assembly” of Israel. #MattTheSecond #SeeingJesus
One of the favored expressions of theologians is “suggests.” No, dear writers, Jesus did not suggest that he was Kurios, He plainly declares it. He is Lord. And He is Lord over all; God Incarnate. Jesus IS God by His own confession. #SeeingJesus #MattTheSecond
Truth, by its nature, is offensive to our thinking and our flesh. It should be EXPECTED that preaching and teaching will both reveal and cause offense. Jesus repetitively tells His disciples this- we, too, should expect it. #MattTheSecond #4Gospels #SeeingJesus
Let the record show: 99.999999% of people would not want Jesus as their pastor. He constantly preached about the difficulties of the Way, of the sacrifices of the Way, while keeping on the Way. But He also gave promise: its gonna be worth it all. #MattTheSecond #SeeingJesus
Jesus first parable in Jerusalem was a very pointed one: a son that claims he will work for the father, but doesn’t show up. Jesus was speaking to the religious leaders; He still speaks the same.If you are called, you are called to work. Labor. Exert. #MattTheSecond #SeeingJesus
There are three major themes of the Gospels: the birth, the ministry and death/resurrection of Jesus. The purpose of those things is to show the identity of who Jesus was. #MattTheSecond #4Gospels #SeeingJesus
Matthew speaks: your ancestry, political persuasions, not your ethnicity gets to determine your identity. The blood of the Messiah, Jesus Christ, starts and finishes it. #MattTheSecond #SeeingJesus #4Gospels
Some think Matthew was trying to teach how to read the Bible (OT); others, to evangelize the Jews. The Gospels are still so current it hurts- it’s still read your Bible and evangelize the lost. #MattTheSecond #SeeingJesus #4Gospels
The Resurrection narratives find there apex in the Great Commission, where the work was in the work of teaching, and baptizing. His greatest miracle was followed by a call to discipleship. #MattTheSecond #MarkTheMiraculous #SeeingJesus #4Gospels
We reach for things that are not ours and refuse things that are. We reach for the miraculous, which is God’s, and we shirk our part, discipleship. Miracles SHALL come but only when a cross has been lifted and carried. #SeeingJesus #MarkTheMiraculous #MattTheSecond #4Gospels
When Jesus looked at the coming church, he did not say “pray for more miracles, signs and workers.” Instead, He said pray for more workers. Blistered hands and sunburnt brows are needed far more in the Kingdom than another surge of the miraculous. #MattTheSecond #SeeingJesus
