@rauldsf_santos @DrMichaelShapir @marciominame @khurramn1 Thank you all for your comments! No misunderstanding here. Treat treat treat. It does highlight the heterogeneous (penetrance of mutation; environment, other protective mutation, etc.?) nature of FH. 1/ #NLATwitterChat #NLACAC
@nationallipid A5: When CTA is available, use it! However most 42 year olds should not get a CTA in the absence of symptoms. CAC is the preferred test for asymptomatic patients. #NLACAC
@nationallipid A6: Endocrine Society guidelines and I suspect NLA will be very specific about this I think. This was the conclusion of a recent paper on the topic of retesting after CAC=0. https://t.co/eUFSThkwzx #NLACAC

Not sure about other areas of the country, in my neck of the woods, you can obtain a #CAC for $89 cashpay. Insurance will take a claim --> depends on deductibles after that. Some pts tell me they are at $200+ after insurance. #NLATwitterChat #NLACAC
Q10: Are insurance companies beginning to cover the cost of coronary calcium scans? If not covered by insurance, what's the typical cash price for a coronary calcium scan? #NLATwitterChat #NLACAC
A10. Here in the Northeast there is no coverage. Cash out of pocket cost is region dependent and can range from $129 to $300 in the Philadelphia area.

A9. Yes, the St Francis Heart study showed that treating high CAC (>75th percentile) with atorvastatin 20 mg in a randomized trial lowers events by 30%, and those with CAC >400 by 42%.
