It’s been two months since I took delivery of the Model Y, having driven just over 4,000+ miles — with slightly under 90% of them on #FSD. (There’s still one month left in the 90-day free trial before the $99/month subscription officially kick in) How would I summarize the current state and overall feel of FSD (the "full blood" version as the Chinese calls it)? Here's my updated honest assessment. The keywords that come to mind are: * Tight, but not awkward * Reassuring, but not nerve-wracking * Trustworthy, but not questionable * Cautious, but not hesitant * Decisive, but not reckless * Mystical, but not clumsy It's definitely got a life of its own. The most important point, though, is what I’ve said before: powerful, but not perfect. From 14.2.2.5 to 14.3.2 and now 14.3.3, you can genuinely feel the capability improving. At the same time, some behaviors have become a bit overaggressive — for example, phantom braking noticeably increased after 14.3.3 (I hope this can be improved in the next update). There are also occasional weird maneuvers that aren’t exactly failures per say, just… bizarre behavior. That’s the negative side of the word "mystical.” It’s genuinely useful and enjoyable to use, though not yet to the point where it's must-use every single trip out (I don't feel compelled yet). For very short and familiar trips or routes (for example school run), manual driving is still much more efficient. But for anything more than a few miles — especially long-distance drives — hand it over to FSD, there is no brainer. The round trip to Philly from MA with zero disengagements back in April already proved that point. I have a longer road trip (about 500+ miles) coming on Sunday. We'll see how it goes (the expectation is that FSD will do its job). All the solutions that are on offer in China (many of which I have experienced recently, and are impressive) are frantically trying to catch up. FSD is still the crown jewel. Which sets up an epic summer in smart driving iterating to the next level in China with as FSD approval looms on the horizon.
