White-necked & White-whiskered Puffbirds. These quiet and often overlooked birds typically perch silently, waiting to ambush insects and small animals. Our @EagleEyeTours group enjoyed seeing these two species as we explored Belize & Tikal recently.

Slaty-tailed Trogon :) Some birds look better from a certain angle, but trogons are pretty spectacular however you get to see them. This male was incredibly obliging for our @EagleEyeTours group during a walk at Tikal National Park (Guatemala) recently.

Always a stunner, our @EagleEyeTours group enjoyed killer views of Ruby Topaz Hummingbird last week. Hummingbirds have been a huge highlight of this trip to Trinidad & Tobago, which clues up tomorrow (but lots of photos still to come!).

Wherever you go in the world, jays are beautiful, social & raucous birds that everyone enjoys seeing. It's no surprise that our @EagleEyeTours group was excited to find a troupe of Yucatan Jays near Crooked Tree, Belize earlier this month.

High water levels at Crooked Tree, Belize meant "some" birds eluded our @EagleEyeTours group, but also allowed us to enjoy species that wouldn't have been possible with lower water. The most exciting of these was this secretive Yellow-breasted Crake!

Cat-eyed Snake (Imantodes cenchoa). Another highlight of last night's hike was this beautiful snake - relatively small and quite harmless, unless you are a lizard or frog of course. What a stunning animal!

Mexican Tree Porcupine! Night walks are a favourite part of any visit to the tropics - maybe because we have so few nocturnal species at home. We were excited to spot this critter during our stroll at Jade Jungle Lodge in Belize last night.
