Today’s #Okeanos dive is a go! We’re heading down to the lower flank of B1 Seamount, located along the Cook Island’s southwestern border with American Samoa. Starting a depth of ~4,950 m (3.1 mil).

While we’d hoped to conduct an #Okeanos dive today on an abyssal plain habitat, we encountered some issues with our ROV. So we’ve canceled today’s dive and hope to be back in the water tomorrow. Stay tuned!

The 2026 Pacific Islands Mapping expedition begins tomorrow. #Okeanos will depart from Honolulu and make its way through deep waters of Kingman Reef, Palmyra Atoll, and Jarvis Island before arriving in port at Rarotonga, Cook Islands.
