There are many things which can be correct at the same time in the @lewisuriri v @wicknellchivayo saga:
1. The 2018 Presidential Election Petition will forever define his legacy in the eyes of the average citizen, whether he likes it or not. Pro-regime partisans were elated by Uriri's delivery while pro opposition ones were horrified & outraged.
2. The consensus is that ED rigged that election & the Judiciary illegally certified that illegitimate outcome.
3. Uriri was the face of those proceedings fighting in ED's corner.
4. That outcome is mired in controversy, scandal & outrage. It stirs a lot of powerful emotions.
5. Whilst Uriri was clearly operating in a professional capacity in that case & many other high profile pro-regime ones, including the one that resulted in Malaba's term extension, the perception seared in the public's conscience is that he is effectively the regime's go to Advocate, "ED's Lawyer," so to speak, rightly or wrongly.
6. Because the regime stands accused of emasculating the Judiciary, Uriri is then perceived to be an extension of pro-ED & pro-regime interests in those cases, advantageously perched to deliver inevitable pro-regime choreographed outcomes, again rightly or wrongly.
7. Those perceptions have fairly or unfairly become problematic for Uriri, particularly in view of the high stakes cases that he is currently handling, arguing against CAA3, by extension ED's political interests.
8. Having represented ED, albeit in his official capacity & Wicknell as well for long periods of time, that weight of history has inevitably & undoubtedly created a crisis of confidence & thus an albatross & trust deficit / conflict of interest about his capacity to deliver effective advocacy in a case that effectively pits him against his high profile long term client.
9. Not only are the cases exceptionally high profile & high stakes in nature, so is ED, either his former or ongoing client. From an ethical standpoint, these are unchartered territories.
10. I am minded to conclude, and I do not do so lightly, that it's impossible for Uriri to shake the tag of a perception of being "ED's Lawyer."
11. This is one of those rare situations of a high profile career where a weighty decision effectively seals one's fate.
12. The irresistible conclusion is that - the perception highlighted above is proving to be a distraction & the question has to be posed about whether or not this is in the best interests of his clients. Only Uriri & his clients can answer that question convincingly.
13. Wicknell's crass intervention is steeped in desperation. He has effectively wheeled out & laundered his past association with Uriri to try & force Uriri to abdicate from his position as counsel while sowing seeds of doubt about Uriri's loyalty to his clients & supporters of the case.
14. Uriri saw through the shenanigans & made short shrift of Wicknell. Yet he would have been incredibly naive to think - that - that would have been the end of the matter. Where Uriri wants to emphasise & demonstrate "distance," Wicknell will be seeking to unleash a deluge of evidence underlying past "proximity" & perhaps "oversights" & "inconsistencies!"

Northwest Missouri State volleyball player Mya Karrick has been named the MIAA Setter of the Week.
Karrick (Shorewood, Minn./Minnetonka HS/Morgan State) averaged 9.33 assists per set in helping Northwest to a 2-0 start in MIAA play. Karrick had 40 assists, two blocks, a kill and a service ace in the five-set win over Central Oklahoma. Karrick contributed 44 assists, four kills, a block and a service ace in a four-set triumph over Newman.
Karrick and the Bearcats will be in action Tuesday at home against the Washburn Ichabods. First serve is set for 6 p.m. at Bearcat Arena.
