A years-long investigation by the #SAPS Northern Cape Organised Crime Investigation Unit has culminated in the successful execution of #OperationDigDeep, resulting in the arrest of four suspected drug dealers in Kuruman and Postmasburg.
The intelligence-driven investigation, launched in 2021 by the Organised Crime Investigation Unit's Narcotics Component in collaboration with Crime Intelligence, focused on dismantling a suspected drug trafficking network operating within the John Taolo Gaetsewe District.
In the early hours of Thursday, 16 July 2026, a multidisciplinary team simultaneously executed coordinated operations at several identified premises. The team comprised members of the Northern Cape Organised Crime Investigation Unit, Kimberley and Kuruman K9 Units, the Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC), Kuruman Public Order Police and Crime Intelligence.
Four foreign national males, aged between 31 and 50 years, were arrested during the operation at various locations in Kuruman.
Throughout the undercover investigation, police successfully conducted controlled purchases of suspected illicit drugs with an estimated street value of approximately R45 000. The final enforcement phase of the operation resulted in the registration of ten drug dealing cases, as well as two additional ad hoc cases at the Kuruman and Postmasburg police stations.
Police also seized quantities of suspected mandrax and tik with an estimated combined street value of approximately R16 000, together with assets believed to be the proceeds of criminal activities.
The four accused are expected to appear in the Kuruman and Postmasburg Magistrates' Courts on charges relating to dealing in drugs. Investigations are continuing, and further arrests remain a possibility as detectives pursue additional leads.
The Provincial Commissioner of the Northern Cape, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola, praised the members involved for their determination and commitment in bringing the extensive investigation to a successful conclusion.
"Operation Dig Deep reflects the determination of the South African Police Service to identify, investigate and dismantle criminal networks that profit from the illicit drug trade. This successful operation is the result of patience, effective intelligence gathering and coordinated action by our specialised units. We remain steadfast in our commitment to removing drugs from our communities and ensuring that those involved in organised crime face the full might of the law," said Lieutenant General Otola.
