#PrepMonth Tip: It can feel overwhelming to prepare yourself, your family and your property for hurricane season, but you can do it! Walk through the process using the City's Step by Step PREP guide, available for free online at https://t.co/ugNwKZNC34

#PrepMonth Tip: Download the City's free DigiTally app, which helps you quickly report service issues, view the outage map and more. Reports submitted via the app go directly to the corresponding department.

#PrepMonth Tip: Ensure you have enough safe water during a disaster. Store-bought water is not your only option. Fill containers from your tap, which helps save money. Store water in high-quality plastic rather than glass or paper cartons. Wash & rinse containers before filling.

#PrepMonth Tip: Make sure your car is ready before the storm hits.
🚗 Stay current on routine maintenance.
⛽ Fill your car’s gas tank.
Know where to move your vehicles, such as in your garage, to better protect them.
🎒 Always keep an emergency kit in your car.
#PrepMonth Tip: If you or a household member have medical needs that require electricity, consider signing up for the special needs shelter, purchasing a generator or planning to stay with a friend/family member (pending they live outside the impact area or have a generator).

#PrepMonth Tip: Make sure you have a working fire extinguisher nearby at all times in case one is needed. Reduce your risk of fire during an emergency by using flashlights only and not candles.

#PrepMonth Tip: People who live in mobile homes & RVs are at increased risk during high winds. Even an anchored mobile home can be seriously damaged when wind exceeds 80mph. Plan now for where you can seek alternative shelter should a hurricane threaten our area.

#PrepMonth Tip: Take photos and/or video of your property before a storm. This can help after a storm should you need to file an insurance claim or request aid from FEMA. Include both the interior and exterior of your home, your cars, pool, fencing, awnings, etc.
#PrepMonth Tip: Install storm shutters to protect your windows. Alternately, you can fit plywood panels to your windows, which can be nailed to window frames when a storm approaches.
#PrepMonth Tip: Clear your yard of debris and loose objects when a hurricane or strong storm threatens our area. This includes securing your trash bin, removing yard debris, storing pool toys and bringing outdoor furniture inside.
#PrepMonth Tip: As you plan for hurricane season, identify an interior room or hallway in your house that has no windows and, ideally, no exterior doors or walls. Depending on the severity of a storm, this may be where you need to seek safe shelter.

#PrepMonth Tip: Use our Step by Step PREP Guide to learn more about utility services, including:
💡The process of power restoration
🗑️How to sort storm debris for curbside collection
🥚The smell of natural gas to help detect a leak

#PeopleWithDisabilities are 2-4 times more likely to be adversely affected by a disaster. To reduce the impact, ASTHO & @WID_org, crafted a toolkit to prepare for an emergency & provide equal access to disaster programs & services. #PrepMonth Read here: https://t.co/TGniOr0PXq
#PrepMonth Tip: A disaster preparedness kit can get heavy. Lift it as you build it to make sure you can easily move it. Having trouble? Consider using a backpack or container with wheels to make it easier.

#PrepMonth Tip: There are a variety of items that could go in your preparedness kit, such as current photos of family members, portable phone chargers and a map of the local area. Build your bucket with our handy checklist, accessible at https://t.co/x1E4QOj6I8
#PrepMonth Tip: Get the family involved in building your preparedness kit. Have everyone select at least one change of clothes and a non-electronic activity they enjoy. Books, dolls, crayons, playing cards and pogs are all good additions. (Pogs could make a comeback.😉)
#PrepMonth Tip: Hygiene items are a must as you build your disaster preparedness bucket. Include soap, hand sanitizer, toilet paper, towels, mouthwash and more. Get a list of items on page 4 of our Step-by-Step PREP Guide at https://t.co/VptE6WOmyn
