Schools have always been responsible for drilling #prescriptivist views about language to students. Rather than banning words/phrases why not teach differences in register? Teachers: language is adaptable and context-dependent! https://t.co/yq9ukJok1R

Good morning my #prescriptivist friends. Today I mixed my metaphors by saying ‘root of the (email) chain’. I then realised that a sequence of emails can legitimately be described as a chain but that we’re not quite there yet w/r/t you saying it’s okay. Let me know? #grammar

When 'I' write about me, 'I' use 'I'. That's good. But when 'i' see someone writing about them and using 'i,' why do 'i' behave like a child crying for an 'i'Scream? Whyyyyyyy? What is this disorder called?🤔 #Prescriptivist #NormalButAbnormal

@bmacsuib @eoinyk I have often seen "watershed" misused to mean what we used to call a "basin", but is now usually called a "catchment". No problem with synonyms, but using a word to mean its opposite pushes my #prescriptivist buttons. @LaymansLinguist
