Brian Boyd & his son Greg collaborated with ALUS Norfolk & Long Point Region Conservation Authority on stewardship activites on their farms such as creating wetlands and seeding native plants. Go to our website to learn about projects like this in the LPWF! #PriorityPlaceThursday

It’s #PriorityPlaceThursday! The Forests and Treed Swamps Working Group is targeting woody invasive species in the Priority Place which threaten native plants and biodiversity. Learn more on our website: https://t.co/WTj24IEUES

It's #PriorityPlaceThursday! Community members like Kathryn and Michael Boothby have joined ALUS Norfolk, members of the Agriculture Runoff Working Group, to help produce cleaner air, cleaner water and greater biodiversity around their farm. Learn more: https://t.co/WTj24IEUES
A priority for the Road Ecology Working Group is installing and maintaining infrastructure like fences and culverts to keep species safe. These can also help mitigate the effects of climate change such as increased flooding. Go to our website to learn more! #PriorityPlaceThursday

Preserving the biodiversity of the Priority Place is essential to ensure that the benefits we receive from healthy and functioning ecosystems remain for future generations!
Swipe through to learn about biodiversity, ecosystems, and Species at Risk.

Many species such as turtles may be attracted to roads to feed, bask, or nest, which puts them at risk of a collision. Reducing road mortality of wildlife is a priority in the LPWF. See how you can help as well! #PriorityPlaceThursday

The LPWF provides important stopover habitat for birds during migration. This makes the area great for birding, but the many other species found here prove how valuable the habitat in the LPWF is to all wildlife, & how important it is to preserve it!

Why is the LPWF so biodiverse?
For one reason, it’s in the Carolinian Life Zone. This vegetation zone takes up <1% of Canada’s total land, but has more species than any other zone in Canada! The LPWF groups are working to protect this biodiversity.

This #PriorityPlaceThursday we're looking at the Road Ecology Working Group!
Roads and traffic pose a risk to biodiversity and cause habitat fragmentation. This group aims to reduce road mortality of significant species and protect wildlife habitat and movement in the LPWF.

Open country habitats such as oak savanna or tallgrass prairie are rare, important, and have many benefits. And maybe surprisingly, they rely on fire.
Orgs in this working group help preserve and restore these habitats in the LPWF Priority Place

Priority places are areas selected for their significant biodiversity, species at risk, and conservation opportunities. They focus on all the biodiversity of the area rather than on single species, so actions have a greater impact!

In 2018, much of the LPBR was named a “Priority Place” for conservation by Environment & Climate Change Canada, helping to ensure the Long Point area is protected for future generations!
