The grand finale of the technical sessions on #QuantumTechnologies at the #GCConference of the @BerlinUAlliance focuses on quantum computing for combinatorial optimization.
Ronald de Wolf, Gödel Prize winner from Amsterdam, presents a rigorous perspective on what can be established in this field. Sevag Gharibian examines the role of classical optimization in quantum variational algorithms, showing that even approximate solutions are computationally hard. Finally, Vincent Ulitzsch closes on a positive note, placing industrially relevant challenges from the chip industry into the framework of provable quantum advantages.
What a day.
The third session of the #QuantumTechnologies track at the #GCConference of the @BerlinUAlliance is dedicated to exploring how quantum simulation can address industrial and societal challenges.
Stefan Kühn opens the session with perspectives on using quantum computers to tackle problems in high-energy physics. Next, Christian Groß delivers a compelling talk on how ultracold fermionic atoms can be used to simulate complex quantum systems. Afariha Azad then discusses variational quantum simulation of lattice gauge theories. Finally, Kara Maller focuses on making quantum computing more practical through performance-enhancing infrastructure software.
The second #quantumtechnologies session at the #GCConference focused on experimental quantum optical implementations of quantum communication concepts. Eleni Diamanti opened the session with an inspiring talk on the Paris-based efforts toward quantum networks.
She was followed by Matheus Ribeiro-Sen, who spoke about Telekom Labs’ work on building a quantum network in Berlin, and Darshit Suratwala, who discussed methods for assessing key rates in quantum key distribution systems. Roger Kögler addressed the challenge of making quantum optical technologies practically viable. Finally, Malo Bezard introduced a hybrid diamond platform for on-chip quantum photonics.
We had a great start to the #quantumtechnologies theme at the #GCConference, with two sessions.
Christian Gogolin delivered an inspiring and insightful keynote on the use of quantum computers in quantum chemistry.
This was followed by three eminent researchers who explored the interface between artificial intelligence and quantum computing. Frank Wilhelm-Mauch provided an excellent overview of quantum machine learning. Tobias Osborne turned the perspective on its head, explaining how artificial intelligence and specifically LLMs and Lean are reshaping scientific discovery in quantum technologies. Finally, Jeanette Lorenz gave a compelling talk on quantum-enhanced machine learning algorithms, bringing the session to a comprehensive close.
