Asked about how #COVID19 might be causing abdominal symptoms, Dr Hare said #coronavirus could be causing micro- clots in blood vessels in the abdomen, causing pain.

One #RCRTalks viewer asked Dr Hare about what was happening with #LongCovid patients who, conversely, are showing lung damage on #imaging later on...
Commenting on how patients suffering #LongCovid can have normal follow-up scans, Dr Hare told #RCRTalks delegates it appeared that many patients who had seemingly mild symptoms initially are feeling unwell for longer, with no obvious issues seen via lung #imaging....
Kicking off the #RCRTalks Q&A, the RCR's @WilliamHRamsden asked Dr Hare how immediately obvious #COVID19 is on #imaging.
.@lungdiagnosis explained that diagnosis via scans tends to be obvious as patients presenting to hospital tend to be suffering severe covid progression...
Dr Hare wrapped up his #RCRTalks session by urging all patients in need to access the #NHS: "we've put an infrastructure in place where we have non-#COVID19 sites and you can rest assured you will be safe when you come to hospital."

While news of advancing #COVID19 vaccines offers hope, Dr Hare urged viewers to remain patient and keep adhering to all the ongoing #coronavirus public health measures, adding "we need to protect lungs".

Our understanding of the non-respiratory symptoms and long-term impact of #COVID19 is growing, says Dr Hare, adding that there is also growing concern around long-term lung scarring and the impact of #LongCovid

Dr Hare explained how #radiology teams have adapted practice – using one scanner for non-#COVID19 patients and one for those with suspected/confirmed #coronavirus, utilising dedicated covid-secure sites and overnight reporting of possible covid cases.

Dr Hare noted how the #radiology community and @BSTImaging quickly worked to produce resources to help standardise #COVID19 chest X-ray reports, along with an open access database so chest radiologists could share expertise with colleagues across the UK.

Commenting again on the importance of #radiology, Dr Hare stressed: “every single patient was having an #imaging test for their #coronavirus, that is the untold story of the pandemic – the oil that was driving the machinery of the hospital was the imaging department.”

Dr Hare described how the flood of patients during the first wave of #coronavirus meant that the #NHS “metaphorically couldn’t breathe", adding: “ordinarily I might see 1 or 2 patients with pneumonia during my normal day… during the first surge I was seeing 40-50."
