A 34-year-old man is expected to appear before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 10/09, following his arrest in connection with the alleged possession of suspected stolen property and tampering with or damaging essential infrastructure at Rietkolk Gravel Road in the Westenburg policing area.
The suspect was arrested by members of the Flying Squad after police received information regarding a shooting incident at Rietkolk Gravel Road at approximately 05:30 on Wednesday, 09/09.
Upon arrival at the scene, police found a member of an environmental patrol operating in the area together with the suspect. The suspect was allegedly found in possession of suspected stolen Eskom property and was reportedly driving a silver Suzuki motor vehicle believed to have been used during the commission of the offence.
The recovered property includes one copper bar, copper wire and a transformer terminal.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects allegedly gained access to an Eskom substation, where they cut down a pole carrying a transformer and damaged the transformer in an attempt to remove copper bars contained therein.
It is further alleged that four other suspects fled from the scene carrying bags containing copper of an undisclosed value. During their escape, one gunshot was allegedly fired. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
An Eskom representative was summoned to the scene and positively identified the recovered items as Eskom property. The representative further confirmed that the material had been removed from the substation and transformers.
The estimated value of the damage to the infrastructure and suspected stolen property is approximately R4 million.
The police investigation is continuing, with members working to trace and apprehend the four outstanding suspects.
The suspect is facing charges of possession of suspected stolen property and tampering with or damaging essential infrastructure.

The operational team received information regarding a woman allegedly involved in the sale of illicit drugs in Ntsima Village, Sebayeng policing area outside Mankweng. Members proceeded to the area and, while en route, observed the suspect driving a white Mercedes-Benz.
The vehicle was stopped, and the suspect was requested to accompany the police to her residence. With the necessary permission obtained, members searched the vehicle and the premises.
During the search of the premises, police members noticed a black shopping bag. Upon searching the bag, they discovered a substantial quantity of suspected illicit drugs, including heroin, crystal methamphetamine and CAT.
The suspect was arrested and detained at Sebayeng SAPS on charges of dealing in and possession of drugs.
The seized drugs have an estimated street value of R211 160.00.

The police in Limpopo have arrested two foreign nationals during a disruptive operation aimed at addressing illegal mining activities in the Atok policing area under the Sekhukhune District.
The operation was conducted by members of the Provincial Organised Crime Investigation Unit at a farm in Atok on Wednesday, 09/09, at approximately 08:00.
During the operation, police arrested a 27-year-old Malawian male and a 41-year-old Zimbabwean female.
Police confiscated suspected #illegalmining equipment, including:
* Three generators;
* Three jackhammers;
* Five buckets;
* One shovel; and
* Approximately 14 metres of electric cable.
The suspects were subsequently found to be in the country illegally and are facing charges of illegal mining and contravention of the Immigration Act.
The suspects remain in police custody and are expected to appear before the Sekhukhune Magistrates’ Court soon.

The #SAPS in Limpopo has made further progress in the investigation into the murder of 43-year-old businessman Tebogo Mothapo, following the arrest of a fourth suspect who appeared before the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 09/09.
The 36-year-old suspect, Ntsiri Justice Mashiane, was arrested this morning, Wednesday, 09/09, at the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court by members of the Provincial Tracking Team and Provincial Investigation Unit.
The suspect, who is currently serving a 40-year sentence in connection with another matter at Kutama-Sinthumule Correctional Centre, was brought before the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court after a warrant for his arrest was obtained. The warrant was executed upon his arrival at court, and he was formally charged.
He faces six charges, namely conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to commit robbery, murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of unlicensed ammunition and robbery with aggravating circumstances.
The accused was subsequently joined with his co-accused, Osama Asad (27), Kagontle Moshibudi Sina Bopape (19), and Happy Maponya (30), who are also facing charges relating to the murder.
The charges emanate from the murder of businessman Tebogo Mothapo (43), who was attacked and shot dead in the Mankweng policing precinct on 16 December 2025.
The first suspect, Osama Asad, was arrested on 20 July 2026 at Ga-Mothapo, Tjatjaneng. The second suspect, Kagontle Moshibudi Sina Bopape, was arrested on 30 August 2026, while the third suspect, Happy Maponya, was arrested on 01 September 2026 at Ga-Thoka Village in the Mankweng policing area.
The court granted Osama Asad bail of R10,000, subject to strict conditions. Some of the conditions are that he must report to Mokopane Police Station, as he will be residing in the area, and may not leave Limpopo Province without the permission of the investigating officer. He was also ordered to surrender his passport.
The matter was postponed to 17 September 2026 for a formal bail application in respect of Happy Maponya. Ntsiri Justice Mashiane abandoned his bail application, while the matter against Kagontle Moshibudi Sina Bopape will return to court on 14 September 2026 for a formal bail application.

The Polokwane High Court has sentenced 37-year-old Humphrey Makgoba Malale to 18 years’ direct imprisonment for the murder of 26-year-old Tzaneen TVET College student, Moshibudi Mashumo.
The accused entered into a plea and sentence agreement in terms of Section 105A of the Criminal Procedure Act, 51 of 1977, and was subsequently sentenced to 18 years’ imprisonment.
The incident occurred on Friday, 14 February 2025, when Mashumo was reportedly last seen in the company of her boyfriend at his residence.
On Monday, 17 February 2025, at approximately 19:30, Mashumo’s decomposed body was discovered inside a house linked to the accused.
A murder case was initially opened at Maake Police Station and was later transferred to the Provincial Detectives for further investigation. The case was assigned to Captain Phaladi Makola, who conducted a thorough investigation that ultimately led to the successful prosecution of the accused.
On Thursday, 30 October 2025, a warrant of arrest was executed against Malale at Percy Five outside Polokwane by members of the Provincial Investigation Unit, in collaboration with the Provincial Tracking Team.
Following his arrest, the investigating officer successfully opposed the accused’s release on bail. He remained in custody until his conviction and sentencing.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers, has welcomed the conviction and sentencing of a 28-year-old man for the rape of a 12-year-old girl in a case investigated by the Burgersfort FCS Unit.
The incident was reported at Mecklenburg #SAPS and was investigated by Detective Constable Ramatsobane Mphahlele, with successful prosecution led by Mr Selepe.
The court records indicate that the victim’s mother, on 02 March 2025 at approximately 17:00, left her daughter at her homestead under the care of her uncles while she visited her boyfriend.
Upon returning the following morning, 03 March 2025, at about 07:00, the victim disclosed that while she was asleep during the night, the accused broke open a window and entered the room where she was sleeping.
The accused instructed the victim to undress herself and, when she refused, forcefully undressed her and sexually assaulted her. At the time of the incident, the victim’s uncles were reportedly at a local tavern.
Following the conclusion of the trial, the court found the accused guilty of rape and sentenced him to 20 years’ direct imprisonment.

Two suspected armed robbers died in a fatal motor vehicle crash in the Marble Hall policing area on Tuesday morning, 08/09, hours after a violent business robbery at a filling station in Dennilton, Sekhukhune District. Firearms and ammunition recovered from the crashed vehicle have been positively linked to the two deceased suspects and the robbery.
At approximately 02:30, about 13 unknown African males, armed with handguns and rifles, allegedly stormed a filling station at Moteti Complex, Dennilton.
The suspects accosted the security guards and cashier before proceeding to the cash office, where they allegedly used an explosive device to breach the drop safe. They subsequently fled the premises on foot while firing several shots.
An undisclosed amount of cash was stolen from the safe.
At approximately 05:10, police received information that a white Nissan Navara with a Mpumalanga registration number had overturned along the R573 road between Slaagboom and Siyabuswa, towards Marble Hall.
Upon arrival, police found two male occupants at the scene. The driver was certified dead at the scene, while the passenger had sustained serious head injuries. He was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where he subsequently succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical treatment.
Police recovered the following firearms and ammunition:
* One R5 rifle;
* Two R5 magazines;
* 56 R5 rounds of ammunition;
* Two 9mm pistols;
* One empty 9mm magazine; and
* One 9mm round of ammunition.
The two deceased suspects were subsequently identified as males aged 34 and 35, respectively.
Preliminary investigations have positively linked both deceased suspects to the filling station business robbery in Dennilton.

The #SAPS in Thohoyandou has launched a search operation to locate 30-year-old Lebogang Michael Mafaisa, who was reported #missing after he left his residence at Miluwani Village, Thohoyandou.
According to his mother, Lebogang left home on Monday, 31/08, at approximately 16:30, indicating that he was travelling to Polokwane after allegedly securing employment at a grocery shop. However, he has not contacted his family since leaving home, and his cellphone has been switched off.
At the time of his disappearance, Lebogang was reportedly wearing black jeans, a black-and-white T-shirt and black boots. He was also carrying a black suitcase.

A total of 2 142 suspects were arrested, including 05 suspects for murder and 11 for attempted murder, while 09 firearms and 116 rounds of ammunition were seized during multidisciplinary Operation Shanela operations conducted across Limpopo from Monday, 31/08 until Sunday, 06/09.
The week-long high-density operations delivered a significant blow to serious and violent crime, with police and law enforcement partners making arrests for 28 rape cases, 175 assaults GBH, 213 drug-related crimes, 100 cases of driving under the influence, 21 transgressions of the Domestic Violence Act and 141 cases of illegal dealing in liquor, among other offences.
The operation also resulted in the recovery of 05 stolen/robbed vehicles, the confiscation of 38 knives and 39 dangerous weapons, as well as the seizure of 165 080.253 grams of dagga, 21.701 grams of crystal meth (Tik), 2.5 grams of mandrax powder, 9.491 grams of nyaope and 1 273 810 ml of liquor.
A further 188 undocumented immigrants were arrested, while 453 suspects were arrested for public drinking, demonstrating the extensive reach of the multidisciplinary operation targeting criminality and activities that undermine public safety.

A manhunt is underway for four unknown suspects after a business robbery and tampering with essential infrastructure at a telecommunications tower along the R101 outside Mokopane.
The incident occurred on Saturday, 5 September 2026, at approximately 08:00. The victim was allegedly working at the tower when four suspects suddenly arrived. Two suspects were allegedly armed with firearms, while the other two were carrying goods.
The suspects allegedly tied up the victim and threatened him before searching him and taking two cellphones and an undisclosed amount of cash.
The suspects then cut open the barricades to access the battery cube, from which they allegedly removed three cellphone tower batteries.
The suspects fled the scene, leaving the victim tied up. The total value of the stolen property is yet to be established.
A manhunt has been launched for the suspects, who remain unidentified and at large. Police are following up on all available leads to identify and apprehend them.

Police in Tubatse, Sekhukhune District, have arrested a 28-year -year-old suspect in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 25-year-old woman at Mashamothane B1 in the early hours of Saturday, 05 September 2026
According to police reports, members were on duty conducting sector patrols when, at approximately 04:22, they received information from the CSC regarding a woman who had allegedly been stabbed by her ex-boyfriend at rental rooms next to a crèche in Mashamothane B1.
Upon arrival at the scene, police officers found Emergency Medical Services personnel from Dilokong. They were shown the lifeless body of a 25-year-old female lying inside a room with multiple stab wounds sustained on various parts of her body.
The deceased's sister, who was present at the scene, informed police that she had been inside the room with the deceased when she heard a dog barking outside. The suspect is facing charges of Murder, Possession of a Dangerous Weapon, and Contravention of the Domestic Violence Act (DVA).
Meanwhile the Provincial Commisaioner of police in Limpopo , Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers commended theTubatse tracking team members for swiftly responding to the call , persued the suspect and urgently brought the suspect before the court to account for the heinous act of violence he is accussed of having committed .
He is expected to appear before the Praktiseer Magistrate's Court soon.

Police in Tubatse, Sekhukhune District, have arrested a 28-year -year-old suspect in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 25-year-old woman at Mashamothane B1 in the early hours of Saturday, 05 September 2026
According to police reports, members were on duty conducting sector patrols when, at approximately 04:22, they received information from the CSC regarding a woman who had allegedly been stabbed by her ex-boyfriend at rental rooms next to a crèche in Mashamothane B1.
Upon arrival at the scene, police officers found Emergency Medical Services personnel from Dilokong. They were shown the lifeless body of a 25-year-old female lying inside a room with multiple stab wounds sustained on various parts of her body.
The deceased's sister, who was present at the scene, informed police that she had been inside the room with the deceased when she heard a dog barking outside.
