@David_Hambling @Forbes It shouldn't be a surprise that our now and forever #SecondOffset of ever more precise weapons whose only hope of accurate employment depends on ever more distracted human intervention is software defined.
@johnkonrad We don't have the mass armies anymore thanks to #SecondOffset.
What we do have is a big logistical headache so how do you unload a container ship at a hasty forward port?
@paulisci @HopeSeck Classic #SecondOffset delusion that precision machinery can do the work without needing human common sense to ensure that this precise work is done accurately.
@AthertonKD What part of our now and forever #SecondOffset of ever more precise devices whose only hope of accurate employment depends on human intervention do you not like?
@ToddHarrisonDC @LeeHudson_ Minimal latency sensor to shooter links are the ultimate #SecondOffset move of ever more precise weapons whose only hope of accurate employment depends on heroic human understanding.
Against this I would arrange for a direct hit on exactly the wrong target.
@TheDEWLine Yeah, but it didn't have "optimal operational utility",
and it never will.
The #SecondOffset Red Queen treadmill of always finding new things you overlooked the last time is the government contract that keeps on giving.
@DavidLarter Don't need the bodies because our now and forever #SecondOffset replaces massed armies with ever more precise weapons.
And our complete and total lack of robotic clue means that our #KillerRobots are defenseless and entirely dependent on people to understand for them.
@thinkdefence Inflatable decoys shall be overcome by the robust #SensorFusion that our now and forever #SecondOffset shall never deliver.
@planefag That is the #SecondOffset path and my response is to find just that one tap that topples all of your brittle robotic dominoes. We must abandon #AI in favor of paranoid #KillerRobots that are driven by their artificial emotions.
@GarethJennings3 @TheDEWLine Note that our now and forever #SecondOffset shall never ever deliver #SensorFusion enabling that one backseater to get an instant automated view of the battlefield.
@charlescross01 @thinkdefence The entire #SecondOffset is about hitting the target with a single projectile so that you don't have to saturate an entire field with rockets.
@Doctrine_Man Cyborg overlay is as useless as VR overlay. What we need is actual symbolic processing by machines to reduce #SensorFusion into object permanence that humans can agree with. We will never get this from our current and forever #SecondOffset thinking.
@PomoPsiOp @nyrath To produce a von Newman probe is to solve the recycling problem (Look ma, clean Earth!) which requires the magical #SensorFusion software that our current and forever #SecondOffset mindset will never ever develop.
@BonnieGlaser Note that warships keep slamming into commercial ships. This is because commercial ships are shifting to cooperative navigation and our now and forever #SecondOffset will never ever deliver battlefield effective #SensorFusion for the warships.
@DefenseOne @amirhusain_tx @august_cole Problem with Military-AI Complex is that it's stuck in the #SecondOffset waterfall model.
Requirements -> data model build -> ship factory sealed machine smarts -> operators struggle to match battlefield reality to programmer assumptions.
@Whitney_McN Actual problem is that the so-called #ThirdOffset is still being applied using the #SecondOffset waterfall model with operators in the field struggling to bridge programmer assumptions to battlefield realities. Additional automation is simply hidden layers of assumptions.
@lizjosullivan @DaanKayser This #SecondOffset gear will work great in the lab then take an operator in the fields minor annoyance with some native kids as a kill order.
@M__Verbruggen I.e. #SecondOffset highly precise factory sealed weapon smarts whose only hope for accuracy lies with human intervention to overcome the programmer's assumptions as these conflict with the present realities.
