as a general rule, historical tragedies are actually worse than recorded. About 8,000 people survived Auschwitz, so it is fairly well known by the public due to their accounts. Only about 70 survived Treblinka, so it remains relatively obscure.

@dingding_peng @ShuhBillSkee 1 in 20 Germans is a recipient of long-term care aid (pflegebedürftig mit Pflegegrad). I guess one tends to underestimate their number because they don't leave the house a lot.
