#SFDPH Director Dan Tsai and @GlideChurch CEO Dr. Gina Frommer recently cut the ribbon to open The Shop, a barbershop where clients can access essential health care services and social supports. Drawing inspiration from the historic role of barbershops in Black communities as trusted, social, and therapeutic spaces, The Shop was created as a culturally relevant intervention for older Black/African American men — but all ages and ethnicities are welcome!
The Shop aims to reduce overdose deaths, increase linkages to care, and promote whole-person wellness through a trusted, culturally relevant therapeutic environment.

San Francisco is committed to helping people living with fentanyl addiction and other substance use disorders access effective treatment, stability, and long-term recovery.
#SFDPH medical and behavioral health teams, along with our nonprofit partners, are in the community day and night to engage people who use drugs or who need care. Their goal is to help people move off the streets and into services that support their health and well-being.
City contractors are not permitted to distribute smoking supplies in public spaces. In cases where safe use supply distribution is necessary to stop the spread of disease and reduce the risk of overdose - such as sterile syringe distribution - City-funded staff must pair that distribution with proactive counseling and connections to treatment.
Across San Francisco – on the streets, in shelters and supportive housing, in our hospitals and clinics, and in community-based programs – we work to make every interaction an opportunity to help break the cycle of addiction and homelessness.
We know recovery is possible for everyone because we see it every day in the people we are honored to serve.
