Together with a team from @OxfamCanada and @OxfaminUganda the #StandUpProject implementing partners CEHURD, @FemmeForteUg, @RHUganda , carried out a successful joint monitoring visit in Mayuge and Namatingo districts. During the visit, partners received feedback from stakeholders about the implementation of the project in advancing Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights.
The teams from the two districts presented a status report of the work done under the project and the milestones registered thus far. The report in Namayingo district reflected a decline in teenage pregnancy rates from 27% to 24% and the progressive implementation of the ban on "Disco Matanga," a practice linked to early sexual activity. District leaders acknowledged the project’s impact and committed to creating a more supportive environment for continuity of the #SRHR interventions.
During school visits, the delegation interacted with peer educators and youth health clubs. At health centers, they assessed the quality of service delivery and youth-friendly SRHR services, with a visit to Bukatuube HCIII demonstrating improved access to healthcare for adolescents.
One of the key milestones observed is the strengthened partnerships and collaboration among implementating partners and district leaders. The district leaders demonstrated ownership of the project and pledged continued support, which is a key milestone to sustainability of the interventions.

CEHURD is currently participating in a 5-day monitoring engagement in the West Nile region alongside the #StandUpProject implementing partners @FemmeForteUg, @MakSPH, @RHUganda, joined by the Country Management team from @OxfaminUganda, headed by the Country Director @ShantyFrancis
The visit is aimed at assessing the progress of the ongoing six-year project and reaffirming the commitment to advancing Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR).
During the visit, the team is meeting beneficiaries at various project sites while strengthening collaboration with the district leadership and the communities involved.
This engagement emphasizes our ongoing partnership efforts to enhance SRHR outcomes in West Nile and Eastern regions, addressing key gender inequalities and human rights issues particularly; harmful social norms, traditional practices and taboos regarding gender and sexuality, access to SRHR information and services, meaningful decision making power for AGYW.
Teenage Pregnancy rates are still high in West Nile and these come with many challenges among AGYW.

With support from @OxfaminUganda under the #StandUpProject, we successfully concluded four days of implementation in the subcounties of Bukana, Banda, and Sigulu Island.
We conducted mentorship sessions with peer educators to reinforce their knowledge of SRHR and SGBV concepts. During these sessions, we also introduced new activity and monthly reporting tools to guide their implementation and reporting efforts. We assessed the peer leaders' performance in reaching and connecting with their peers, discussed achievements, lessons learned, areas of concern, and provided recommendations. The peers were reminded of their roles and responsibilities towards their peers and the community. Additionally, the mentorship session in Bukana allowed peers to meet their new CDO, who committed to supporting them.
We also conducted gender-sensitive training for local leaders in Namayingo mainland and Sigulu Island. Key takeaways from this training include:
▪︎ Male involvement is crucial for addressing SGBV and promoting SRHR among AGYW, as men often hold decision-making power in families and communities.
▪︎ There is a need for more training and sensitization of duty bearers on the importance of male involvement.
▪︎ Although leaders in Sigulu have created by-laws, implementation remains challenging due to a lack of clear communication and understanding among the community members.

It was a week filled with purpose and progress as we concluded our implementation efforts in Gulu, Mayuge, and Namayingo Districts under the #StandUpProject with support from @OxfaminUganda.
We convened a meeting with local, cultural, and religious leaders in Lolwe sub-county and discussed ways in which they could actively support the progressive realization of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) in the community. With a spirit of collaboration, the leaders committed to working jointly with the peer educators to address the SRHR issues highlighted during the dialogues.
In addition to the community engagement, we held a mentorship session with the peer educators. This was an opportunity to remind them of the previous trainings we had conducted and to introduce the data collection skills, activity, and monthly reporting tools. The peer educators were energized, eager to put their knowledge into practice, and ready to work alongside the local leaders to combat SRHR challenges.

In order to enhance the enjoyment of SRHR by the most marginalized and vulnerable rights holders, particularly adolescent girls and young women, we have conducted a series of activities in Mayuge district under the #StandUpProject. These activities, with support from @OxfaminUganda, aim to promote a progressive realization of SRHR, mostly among young people from eastern Uganda.
A peer review and mentorship session was held to provide peer educators with an opportunity to share their experiences, and learn from one another. It also allowed for mentorship and guidance to ensure that they are well-equipped to support their peers in accessing SRHR information and services.
We also held a gender-sensitive training for community leaders and norm setters including cultural and religious leaders in Mayuge district. This training aimed to raise awareness and build the capacity of these influential stakeholders on gender equality and the importance of promoting SRHR, particularly for adolescent girls and young women.
