#SummitFire Update for July 16

Current Situation: Firefighters continue to make steady progress on the Summit Fire, actively constructing and reinforcing control lines to increase containment.
Dry conditions have resulted in low relative humidities with minimal overnight recovery. These conditions, combined with exposure to direct sunlight and high temperatures, may reveal once-dormant heat sources across the incident.
Weather: A hot weather pattern remains over the incident today, bringing elevated risks for heat-related illnesses alongside onshore winds that are expected to generate southerly gusts of 25 to 35 mph. While a Red Flag Warning is currently in effect for areas northwest of the Summit Fire, no warning is active for the immediate incident footprint, and the threat of thunderstorms has significantly decreased compared to yesterday. Personnel and the public are urged to remain vigilant, stay hydrated, and practice heat safety.

#SummitFire Evening Update for July 15
Location: Jesus Canyon Rd East and Avenue Z, Llano
Start Date: July 10, 2026
Acres Burned: 2,690
Containment: 86%
Personnel: 536

Residences Damaged: 4 / Residences Destroyed: 4
Minor Structures Damaged: 3 / Minor Structure Destroyed: 1
Current Situation: Firefighters continue to make significant progress building and strengthening control lines. Dry conditions have resulted in low relative humidities with minimal overnight recovery. These conditions, combined with exposure to direct sunlight and high temperatures, may reveal once-dormant heat sources across the incident. Larger fuels and interior pockets of unburned vegetation will continue to burn off. Crews are currently operating in steep, rocky terrain. Local roads are narrow and rocky, presenting challenging driving conditions for emergency equipment.
Fire Weather: An Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect through 8:00pm on Thursday. While general winds are expected to remain light and typical for the area today, an onshore wind push is forecasted for Thursday afternoon, bringing southerly wind gusts between 25 and 35 mph. There is currently an active Red Flag Warning for areas immediately northwest of the fire, but there are no plans to issue a Red Flag Warning for the Summit Fire footprint itself, as the threat of thunderstorm activity has dropped significantly.
Tomorrow’s Outlook: Over the next 24 to 48 hours, the prolonged exposure to direct sun, extreme heat, and low relative humidities will keep fuels highly receptive, potentially exposing deeper, previously dormant heat sources. Heavy fuels will continue to smolder well within the containment lines. If conditions continue to trend as predicted over the next 72 hours, fire behavior is expected to remain minimal with no anticipated growth or significant active fire spread.

#SummitFire Update for July 15
Location: Jesus Canyon Rd East and Avenue Z, Llano
Start Date: July 10, 2026
Acres Burned: 2,690
Containment: 72%
Personnel: 799

Residences Damaged: 4 / Residences Destroyed: 4
Minor Structures Damaged: 3 / Minor Structure Destroyed: 1
Current Situation: Thanks to the extraordinary efforts of crews and staff the operational objective has progressed to focus on keeping the within its current footprint. Predicted fire activity today is minimal. A low probability of thunderstorms lingers in the background and thevegetation remains highly receptive to ignition. Heavy fire and maintenance equipment will be working within and around the fire and residents are urged to drive with caution.
Fire Weather: An Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect through Thursday evening, with highs in the 90s increasing the risk of heat illness. A moderate chance of thunderstorms today could bring lightning, brief heavy rain, and sudden 40–50 mph wind gusts. Stronger southerly winds are expected Thursday, and no Red Flag Warning is currently planned for the Summit Fire. This prolonged heat, combined with steep, rocky terrain and narrow roads, presents significant hazards.
Tomorrow’s Outlook: Crews will continue mopping up hot spots and patrolling control lines. Sustained heat and receptive fuels may reactivate previously dormant heat sources. Recent burn areas and the continued efforts of ground and air crews will mitigate the likelihood of flare ups or new ignitions.

#SummitFire Morning Update for 7/15/2026

#SummitFire Evening Update for July 14
Location: Jesus Canyon Rd East and Avenue Z, Llano
Start Date: July 10, 2026
Acres Burned: 2,690
Containment: 64%
Personnel: 799

Residences Damaged: 4 / Residences Destroyed: 4
Minor Structures Damaged: 3 / Minor Structure Destroyed: 1
Current Situation: Firefighters continue making progress building containment lines around the Summit Fire. Fire activity was minimal today with no perimeter growth. Interior pockets and heavy fuels continue to smolder. Dense annual vegetation remains highly receptive to ignition due to recent hot, dry, and windy conditions. CAL FIRE Damage Inspection (DINS) teams have completed their field assessments. Even though Evacuation Warnings have been lifted, there is still heavy fire equipment working in the area. Residents are urged to drive with caution.
Fire Weather: An Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect until Thursday evening. This prolonged heat, combined with steep, rocky terrain and narrow roads, presents significant hazards including heat-related illnesses and rolling material. There is also a continued threat of thunderstorms bringing lightning and sudden wind shifts. If these storms materialize, crews should prepare for erratic wind gusts exceeding 40 mph and heavy downpours.
Tomorrow’s Outlook: Crews will continue mopping up hot spots and patrolling control lines. Sustained heat and poor overnight humidity recovery may reactivate previously dormant heat sources. Recent burn areas and prior fuel treatments at the head of the fire will continue to aid suppression efforts.
