You can’t completely eliminate microplastics from salt, but you can reduce your exposure smartly. Here’s what actually works (and what doesn’t):
What Helps (Practical Solutions)
1. Choose Refined or Vacuum-Evaporated Salt
These go through more processing and filtration
Tend to have lower microplastic content than raw sea salt
2. Limit Raw Sea Salt / Gourmet Salts
Himalayan, sea salt, pink salts = often less processed
Can carry more environmental contaminants, including microplastics
3. Use a Clean Storage System
Store salt in glass or steel containers
Avoid plastic jars that may add secondary contamination
4. Diversify Your Sources
Don’t rely heavily on one type of salt
Rotate between iodized refined salt and other sources
What Doesn’t Really Work
Washing salt ❌ (it dissolves, so you can’t “clean” it)
“Organic” labels ❌ (don’t guarantee absence of microplastics)

Tonight for #TableSalt I did a grilled Outside Flank steak, mushrooms 2 ways (grilled Portobello slices, and sauté Elm Oyster and Lions Mane in Ghee and Tamari), with a homemade chimichurri sauce and a garden salad.
Regular table salt is processed to remove ALL minerals & may contain an anti-caking agent called ferricyanides which breaks down into “cyanide”: deadly & toxic at high levels. So they take out the minerals and add cyanide.
Why would anyone do that?

I’m a day behind on posting meals but yesterday I did #TacoTuesday for #TableSalt with some pork belly tacos (sous vide then finished with a sear in the cast iron) including homemade candied jalapeño & brown sugar hot sauce.
Last night for #TableSalt homemade lamb dolmas, cous cous, and a Greek salad. I usually prefer to roll something other than grape leaves… but this was yummy!
Tonight for #TableSalt I did some shrimp scampi on toasted orzo with a Greek salad. Easy, light, and very lemony.
Almost forgot - nothing special for #TableSalt tonight because I was not about to stand in the kitchen and cook for an hour with noodle legs. I steamed some gyoza and made a salad.
Tonight for #TableSalt I did a coconut, lemongrass, basil soup with some snapper + spinach. Served over rice. Packed with flavor.
Tonight for #TableSalt I broke out the pressure cooker and did some black bean soup because I had a lot going on, and was so hungry I ate before remembering to take a picture.
