The transition to a more sustainable and resilient energy future requires innovation, collaboration, and investment in new capabilities. In this month’s @PublicSectorMan magazine, #TeamCSIR Energy Research Centre Manager Dr Thabo Hlalele shares how we help unlock emerging opportunities in South Africa’s energy sector through the development of advanced tools and systems that enhance efficiency, reliability and sustainability.
The article also highlights the CSIR’s role in leading the Team Europe Initiative (OP-VET), which seeks to establish a world-class battery raw materials value chain while supporting skills development, industrial investment, clean energy innovation, and job creation. It is a compelling look at how strategic partnerships are contributing to South Africa’s energy transition and long-term economic growth.
"The partnership commits South Africa and the EU to deeper cooperation across the extraction, processing, refining and recycling of critical raw materials. At the same time, it supports decarbonisation, clean supply chains and inclusive economic growth through investment, skills development and job creation,” said Dr Hlalele.
