The haunting unsolved death of 14 year old Noah Donohoe screams out for justice. On a Sunday morning in June 2020, he left home in south Belfast on his bike and vanished. 6 days later his body was found deep inside a storm drain in north Belfast, naked, some 600 metres from the entrance. The post-mortem recorded drowning as the cause of death. Except nothing adds up and the deeper you look, the more likely a sinister cover-up seems.
The PSNIs official explanation is Noah fell from his bicycle, possibly suffered a head injury, became disoriented, and entered the nearly inaccessible storm drain alone, and removed his clothes in a state of so-called paradoxical undressing. But this raises several serious questions.
Why did he travel so far off route? How did he navigate a complex underground drainage system in darkness? Why were his clothes and belongings found scattered above ground, far from where his body was discovered? And why did the investigation itself so strange and purposefully delayed and unorthodox?
Those doubts deepened in October 2025 with the release of previously undisclosed CCTV footage. It showed Noah leaving his home at 3:34am on the day he disappeared, wearing shorts, a T-shirt, flip-flops, and headphones. He returned 34 minutes later, barefoot and without the headphones.
This footage had not been shared with his mother, Fiona Donohoe, until more than two years after his death. Why was a 14 year-old out alone in the early hours of the morning? And why was such significant material withheld for so long?
The physical circumstances of Noah’s death remain the hardest to reconcile. Found naked, deep inside a storm drain far beyond casual access, his final movements have never been convincingly explained to the satisfaction of his family or supporters. Police maintain there is no evidence of foul play.
Despite warnings from the coroner about contempt of court, theories persist. Some supporters suspect third-party involvement, others point to the loyalist area where his body was found, raising the possibility of localised violence or a cover-up. No such claims have been substantiated in court. But they endure, driven by mistrust rather than proof.
The jailing of a man in 2021 for stealing Noah’s backpack and attempting to pawn his laptop on the day he disappeared added further unease. His belongings were found far from his body, a fact that continues to trouble those who reject the accidental narrative.
Perhaps most controversial was a psychiatric report prepared for the coroner suggesting Noah may have been struggling with his sexuality or held an “obsession” with figures such as Jordan Peterson. Fiona Donohoe has strongly rejected these conclusions, viewing them as an attempt to shift focus from institutional failure to personal distress.
By late 2025, the long-promised inquest had still not begun. Originally scheduled for November, it was postponed again until 2026 after the coroner’s court cited a “significant amount of material” requiring further examination.
Earlier that year, it also emerged that the PSNI had been using AI software to analyse vast quantities of CCTV footage. That process itself became controversial when it was revealed the software’s trial period expired before the coroner’s legal team could fully review its findings. In a case already defined by missing time and missing information, even the tools designed to bring clarity seemed to fail.
Fiona Donohoe successfully secured a jury inquest, a rare and symbolically powerful decision intended to ensure what she described as a “full and fearless” examination of the evidence.
Among the most suspicious behaviour by authorities has been the PSNI’s application for Public Interest Immunity, allowing sections of evidence to be redacted to protect policing methods or sources. Critics, including the Donohoe family and the campaign group #NoahsArmy, argue that its use in the death of a child erects an unacceptable barrier to truth.

💫For this remarkable boy, we intend to find the LIGHT at the end of even the bleakest of tunnels’💫
