Here's what's been happening to applicants for asylum at the US/Mexico border after #Title42ends :
- Applicants who ask for asylum at the border crossings are transferred to open-air dirt lots in the zone between the #Tijuana #SanDiego border fences,
- They have no access to electricity, medical care, food, running water, or toilets except what's provided by volunteers doing humanitarian assistance
While held in these fenced dirt lots:
- People are told to apply for asylum via an app created by @cbp using their mobile phones- but the system has been overloaded & crashing, and/or reception in the border zone is limited
- Armed CBP agents patrol the detainment areas, riding on 4-wheelers or driving vans & SUVs
-These vehicles kick up dust and debris near unsheltered older adults, pregnant women, and families w/babies & young children
As names come up for processing to the next stage:
- Armed agents arrive in the middle of the night and awaken the group of 100s of people to should names and take away a few dozen people at a time "processing"
- Out of view of the others, armed male agents conduct searches & hands-on body inspections of women as well as men, in front of their children
