Yesterday’s Trinity Fire in Phelan, highlighted strong interagency cooperation. Crews from Cal Fire, San Bernardino County Fire Protection District, Victorville Fire Department, and Apple Valley Fire worked together to contain the vegetation fire at 18.6 acres with no reported structure damage.
At the beginning and end of this video, you’ll see a rare fire phenomena. Ash devils form when intense heat causes air to rise and spin, pulling ash, embers, and debris into a rotating column.
Ash devils can create serious challenges on the fireline by spreading embers and igniting spot fires in multiple directions, causing unpredictable wind shifts, and reducing visibility for crews working nearby.
