***ANNOUNCEMENT***
Coming on November 16th on #4K and Blu-ray in the UK from @StudioCanal as part of their #Classics line: #UnFlic (1972)!
Reminder: Kino Lorber is releasing this on 4K in the US on November 17th.
The all-star cast includes Alain Delon (LE CERCLE ROUGE, LE SAMOURAÏ) in his third and final collaboration with Melville, as he takes on the role of conflicted police commissioner Édouard Coleman – a striking departure from the professional criminals he played in Melville's previous films. Richard Crenna (WAIT UNTIL DARK, BODY HEAT) co-stars as Simon, a Parisian nightclub owner, thief and drug trafficker whose criminal activities are unknown to Coleman until after the two men become friends, while Catherine Deneuve (THE UMBRELLAS OF CHERBOURG, BELLE DE JOUR) plays Cathy, the beautiful and elusive woman who is caught between them.
Shot by cinematographer Walter Wottitz (THE LONGEST DAY, THE TRAIN), the film is meticulously choreographed, from its opening bank robbery to the spectacular train heist. With sparse dialogue and an emphasis on visual storytelling, Melville's distinctive style is at its most stripped-back and abstract. A study of solitude and morality, UN FLIC explores the tensions between friendship and betrayal, and the codes of loyalty and honour.
Restored from a 4K scan of the 35mm original camera negative, this edition brings renewed life to one of the lesser-seen works from one of French cinema's great crime directors.
In Melville's final feature film, UN FLIC, Parisian police chief Édouard Coleman's (Alain Delon) life investigating violent crimes has left him feeling despondent. After beginning an affair with a beautiful but cold woman named Cathy (Catherine Deneuve), he befriends her boyfriend, Simon (Richard Crenna), a local nightclub owner. Unbeknownst to Édouard, however, Simon is also a ruthless bank robber and drug smuggler who is planning one final heist. Édouard is forced to pursue Simon after learning about his true identity.

***RELEASE DETAILS***
Coming on November 17th on #4K/Blu-ray dual format in the US from @KinoLorber: #UnFlic (1972)!
Brand New HDR/Dolby Vision Master by StudioCanal – From a 4K Scan of the 35mm Original Camera Negative!
From Jean-Pierre Melville, the legendary director of Bob Le flambeur, Le doulos, Le deuxième souffle and Le cercle rouge comes this action-packed neo-noir. A Paris police chief (Alain Delon, The Sicilian Clan) discovers that his nightclub owner friend (Richard Crenna, First Blood) also leads a group of bank robbers. When he’s tipped off that the same robbers are planning a drug heist, the police chief races to defeat his two-faced friend. Meanwhile, the “flic” (French slang for “cop”) has engaged in some double-crossing himself—by sharing the same woman (Catherine Deneuve, Mississippi Mermaid) with the man he calls his friend. Melville’s last film plays beautifully with all his trademark silences, grim faces and gloomy colors, featuring stunning photography by the great Walter Wottitz (Army of Shadows, The Train). The top-notch cast includes Michael Conrad (The Longest Yard), Riccardo Cucciolla (Sacco & Vanzetti) and Jean Desailly (The Soft Skin).
