This week’s shot for #WPY_Spring takes us to Sierra Nevada, where Ugo Mellone had heard of a strange springtime phenomenon: temporary snow tunnels, cascading towards the wetlands. Upon discovery of this tunnel, Ugo found himself walking into a secret oasis lined with lush grass.

A beautiful image to continue our #WPY_Spring theme. The light in this charming shot by @sandrabartocha is purely that of the setting sun. Finding a tongue orchid among hare's-tail and quaking grasses, Sandra used an in-camera double exposure to keep the softness of the scene.

Next for #WPY_Spring is Ingo Arndt’s stunning capture of these monarch butterflies in flight, a celebration of one of the world’s most famous wildlife migrations. Each spring, about 400 million monarchs fly from the Sierra Madre mountains to North America – that's nearly 3000km.

A painterly scene for our #WPY_Spring theme. In early spring common toads are on the move in Sarthe, migrating along traditional routes from overwintering sites to breeding ponds. Often arriving first, males wait patiently for females to pass by. By #WPYalumni Christophe Salin.

We’re continuing our #WPY_Spring theme with this beautifully framed glimpse of a honeybee entering the great white cup of a magnolia flower. The shot was taken by young photographer and #WPYalumni Jack Salzke, who had been experimenting with macro photography in his garden.

We’re kickstarting our #WPY_spring theme to celebrate the #SpringEquinox. Each spring, hundreds of rough-skinned newts migrate from nearby forests to this pond to breed. Photographer David Herasimtschuk captured the moment one male embraced a female while rivals jostled beneath.

For our #WPY_Spring theme: a gloriously green image taken at Bahía de Cádiz Natural Park. In late spring, parts of these marshes burst with intense colour, creating a rich tapestry of textures and patterns. Taken from the air by #WPYalumni Pere Soler, Spain.

An ethereal image for our #WPY_Spring theme: @sandrabartocha found these delicate snowdrops on the shore of Lake Tollensesee, Germany. She took an in-camera double exposure image, with one sharp exposure and then a much softer one, so the scene would appear ‘as dreamy as it felt’
